More pills are where America is headed and it's dangerous. If you are worried there is a pill, and if you are depressed there is a pill. The biggest problem is no one is monitoring this as closely as they should, but everyone is ready to write, and they are writing big prescriptions with high price tags on them. The price isn't the only thing that can be high, but the stake in your emotional well being is critical and it's being abused.
One of the most widely used drugs for anxiety on the market today is Xanax. Xanax is known for being a habit forming drug, but yet it's given out like candy to people of all ages, and that includes pets. When knowing clearly that taking Xanax as needed will get you hooked, then getting off it is no laughing matter.
In 2002, I was given a prescription for Xanax due to stress. The doctor that gave me the prescription was a gastroenterologist. He knew that I was separated from my husband and things were very stressful at that time. In addition, I had anxiety, and I was crippled by anxiety attacks at every turn. Initially, it started with just taking one at night so I would know how it would affect me, and when I woke up I felt great. I was great all the way up until noon, so I took another one. I was tired due to the medicine, but I just figured I would have a cup of coffee and it would go away. That Xanax wore off around 5 p.m., so I took another one. I went home and crashed. I didn't wake up the next day until 9 a.m., and I was late for a morning meeting. In a panic, I took one so that I would be calm by the time I got to my office.
This was such a vicious cycle, yet it happens all the time. I ended up being hospitalize after a few months because in trying to not take it, the anxiety was worse. I was suicidal and there was no way out but detox. After my stay in the hospital, I was determined to find a better way, not just for me but for many others.
I was reading about herbal supplements you could take to help with depression and anxiety, so tried them all to find out what worked and what didn't. I discovered one supplement called Inositol. Inositol worked great, and I took it at night to calm me down so I could sleep. I felt I had the ability to relax, and in the morning I felt great. I recall having my blinds closed, so I felt depressed and tired, so I grabbed a Rhodiola. Within twenty minutes I was feeling better. I began to implement the natural supplements into my life and the results have been amazing.
These results are not typical from everyone, but I do encourage a natural treatment regimen. Try to seek out a holistic doctor who can help you, that is also an M.D. If you live in the Cincinnati area, check out www.partersinwellnessinc.com, for more information.
