Are Customized Sneakers Worth the Cost?

Customized sneakers are a trendy new way for a consumer to purchase tennis shoes online. A buyer can determine the brand, the colors, and everything down to the last detail. However, is designing a customized set of sneakers worth the cost in the end?

A few years ago when my son was born I went all out with the expensive baby clothes, the top brands of diapers, and even down to customized baby sneakers. Customized sneakers you ask? Yes, customized sneakers. I was a first time mom who wanted my son to have the best, including the best custom sneakers I could find. You as a reader are thinking that I was probably crazy; however, custom sneakers are actually growing in popularity.

I became aware of custom sneakers while I was browsing on the internet when I noticed an advertisement for them. I clicked on the advertisement out of curiosity and amusement with the idea of customized sneakers. Then I had seen the estimated prices, ouch! The prices were freaking expensive! I ended up signing up for an e-mail list that would send specials in the future. I visited a few other sites that offered customized sneakers and found the same kind of pricings. I forgot about the idea until one day I received an e-mail offering something around 30% off.

Yes, I was baited with buying custom sneakers for my son. I didn't purchase the "already customized sneakers," I actually contacted the site and they quickly called me the next day. The brand of shoes that that customized at the time was Nike. I was told that they could put what ever I wanted on the shoes in terms of design and colors. Sounded pretty cool for custom sneakers, right?

I spent a few days gathering ideas for the customized sneakers. It was actually a pretty hard decision. Why? Because even at 30% off I could have bought 8 or more top brand sneakers for the price I would be paying for the custom sneakers for my son. I wanted the customized sneakers to be perfect.

I ended up having the custom sneakers designed in a Disney theme. The custom sneakers depicted Disney World with Aladdin, Genie, Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and numerous other characters. In the Nike swoosh symbol is where the Disney castle was painted in with fireworks in the background. The remaining of the custom sneakers had the Disney characters in a mural setting.

It took a little over a month for the customized sneakers to arrive after telling the company about my Disney theme idea and paying them. Normally, it doesn't take as long they claimed to process an order. However, they had a lot of custom sneaker orders during that time to fulfill other then mine.

For what it cost for customized shoes I didn't really feel it was worth it. No one seemed to really pay attention to my son's new custom sneakers. My mother thought I was insane; although, she did find them very attractive. I think everyone else just assumed that I bought them from a Disney store. If I had to do it all over I probably wouldn't buy customized sneakers unless the cost were to go down. I might consider the idea of custom sneakers again when my son is older so he could wear them longer. My son only wore the custom sneakers briefly; conversely, that was my stupidity for buying such expensive shoes for a baby.

I would recommend customized sneakers to anyone that doesn't mind spending a lot of money on shoes. They are attractive, unique, and if you can keep them clean and take care of them then they could last a long time. Thus, you would probably get your money value out of the custom sneakers. I wouldn't recommend buying customized sneakers for children, toddler, and babies.
