Are You What You Eat (Wheat)?

Awakening for Life

When you take your car to the gas station you know exactly what kind of fuel you will need. You don't fill your car with a mixture of diesel, gas and alcohol. You follow the manufacture's instructions. But, what about the fuel to your body?

Do you know exactly what kind of fuel are you giving to your body? - "Oh, yes" - some will say - "I feed my body with toast for breakfast, cookies for morning snack, pizza for lunch, donuts for afternoon snack and pasta for dinner!"

I used to think this way, until I was diagnosed with celiac disease, which is an allergy to gluten, mainly found in wheat and similar grains. To my surprise, everything that comes inside a box or a plastic container in the supermarket contains gluten. Breads, cookies, pizzas, pastas, soups, creams, ice creams, corn flakes, among others. I became disappointed as I could not eat anything! Anything?

"Are these all the food available in this world?" - I asked myself. For my surprise I realized that all those packages with different colors, designs and cute names, had all the same main ingredient: white flour, white flour and white flour. Toasts? White flour. Cookies? White flour. Pizza? White flour. Donuts? White flour. Pasta? White flour.

So I realized that when people think that they are eating a much diversified selection of food along their day, they are in fact eating mainly white flour! What a boring life!! Besides that, it is no secret that mostly of the white flour is bleached with chlorine and lacks the nutrients and fiber found in the whole grains.

You can call it any cute name, but you may be eating just white flour all your life long. That doesn't sound right to me! Where are the fruits, vegetables, nuts and whole foods in our menus? What happened to the riches that nature provides? The simplicity of nature was left behind and replaced by technologies that instead of enriching food are killing its natural essences.

Don't get distracted by names, colors and packages, read their ingredients. Do you understand what are you eating? Do you know what all those difficult names really mean? If you don't, why are you feeding yourself with white flour mixed with unknown components? Why are you feeding your kids with that?

I decided to leave the boredom behind and add back to my diet the real food, the one I can understand where it comes from, and why it looks the way it does. I decided to leave the colorful advertisements away and get attracted back to the advertisement nature is trying so hard to make but we are too distracted to see.
