My five year old, curly brown-haired, twin just loudly asked my husband, "DAD! Why are you doing that?!"
He was flicking from TV show to TV show. I told him, He is a Flicker. You will be a Flicker one day, too! It's a MAN THING. It is in your blood."
My son proclaims he will not be a Flicker. He can't help it I tell him and argue he will too.
Then his hyper red-headed fraternal twin bellows he will NOT be a Flicker. My husband laughs and says, "I can see you as a professional Flicker!"
He also adamantly denies it.
Why do we aimlessly flick? Sometimes we are watching a television show and flick to another television show at the commercial. Then we completely forget the first television show we were watching and end up on another television show half way through it!
I have watched countless 'half' shows due to my husband's flicking! Do you ladies agree with me?
Also, don't you hate it when you misplace the remote!? And you know we cannot just use the television channels on the TV to simply change the channel!
My husband came up with the two ideas to easily find the remote. The first suggestion he gave is to put Velcro on the back and make it stick to the couch. The second suggestion he had was to put a beeper on the remote control like some cordless phones have.
I have seen all sorts of gadgets for NOT misplacing the remote control. A little wooden container to set on your table. (In our house the container would be lost!)
Another idea I have seen is an arm chair pocket to put the remote in when you are done using it. Yeah, right. I know my kids would have candy wrappers and half chewed gum stuck in those pockets. I would be afraid to stick my hand in there!
I admit, even though I am a female, I am a Flicker, too. Is there a group out there to help all of us Flickers? Flicker's Anonymous or Centers for Habitual Flicking, perhaps?
A friend gave me the suggestion to give our remotes to the children. In no time, they will have the remote lost!
Or just sit back and enjoy flicking! Please, we just ask that you stay on one television show. You can flick at the commercial, but in two minutes go back to the program we were relaxing and watching.

Post a CommentI'm guilty! Take me away.
Ever since we got Tivo, I've been a Flicker ( or maybe a Flicker in training). I'll be watching a recorded show and then wonder what is on television and switch back to live television and then back to the Tivo-ed show during a commercial and then..well, you get the idea. Fun article!
I don't flick a lot but I know a lot of flicking people...all that flicking can get hard to manage..I'm a one station kinda guy..and I'm happier for it..
Man, that's one thing I don't miss with not having a TV set--in fact there's nothing I miss--but my darling husband was a Flicker Lol!--in the most charming way, of course! Lol! Very entertaining read! Lol!!!!!!
LOL @ your article and Lady Samantha's response. I used to be a flicker but then I got a DVR. Now I only watch shows which hold my interest and fast forward through commercials! :)
I love the Velcro on the remote idea! Fun read!
Guilty on all counts... Love to flick. :D Great, fun read!
When I watch T.V. (which is seldom), I'm a flicker too since there's usually nothing on that interests me. Great article!
So true, and a very fun read, thanks for the giggles!!!!!!!
You two crack me up!!!! I love it!
