Are Gift Cards the Perfect Christmas Gift?

While more and more businesses continue to advertise their giftcards in hopes that they will get a quick and easy sale, is it really the perfect gift? Perhaps most may think it is the perfect gift for that person who is very hard to buy for, but gift cards really do not show much meaning as a gift during a holiday that is so very important.

While gift cards are a quick and easy present that will check off one person on your list of names to buy for, the holiday season is about picking out a gift from the heart that you are supposed to actually have a little fun doing. Sure, it might be a little stressful and last minute, but it is only once a year, and whether you believe in God or not, Christmas has should have some sort of meaning for everyone that chooses to celebrate it and buy presents for one another. By simply buying a gift card for a person, you are just doing the duty of buying them a present but when they are given a lousy gift card, it is such a boring gift.

While you might be afraid that you will get someone the wrong gift. most times people appreciate the thought no matter what. They say "it is the thought that counts." Anyways, they are stuck with the gift if they do not like it and that gift will always have a meaning to them whether it is something nice that they will wear and will think of you every time they wear it or something the two of you will look back at and laugh. My mother knows that I like to wear shirts with skulls on them, but I like designer clothes, so last year she bought me shirts from Walmart that had skulls on them and even though I would not wear them out because they are "dorky" Walmart clothes (sorry Walmart fans), I still saved the shirts and look back and laugh and I actually appreciated that she knew I liked skull shirts and she tried to get me something I liked instead of just handing me over money or a gift card.

And why would one buy a gift card after they most must have heard the shocking news about how must gift cards are actually never even redeemed? Think about the profits these stores are making. Gift cards really do not matter to most if they do not even go to the stores to use them. And if your worried about getting the wrong present, shouldn't you also be worried about picking out the wrong gift card? What if you choose a gift card that the person would never even go to!!! There are so many now to choose from these days.

People need to stop being so concerned about getting the wrong thing. If the loved one you are buying for is truly an important person to you, as you should be to them, they will love what ever you buy them, because you took the time out of your busy schedule and picked out a gift for them that you thought they would appreciate. I know that has much more value to me than someone simply buying me a gift card and putting my name and the amount on it and calling it "another holiday"!!!!
