How do you move forward? What have worked for me is the time I spend building new and healthy memories. For example, my father abandoned me as a child. I knew early on to be very careful to not marry a man that would do to my kids what my father did to me. I have a husband who not only adores me , but takes great pride in providing for his three children. Another option would have been to not marry at all and not have children. I was not too keen on being alone. We all have places in our hearts where the past memories can bring about a cardiac arrest. We must find a way to replace the old memories with new vibrant ones.
It is not a bad idea to go see a counselor or psychologist that can help you sort through your feelings. As a teenager one of my best friends died in a fatal car crash, the memory of the crash haunted me for years. After my friend was killed I was afraid of driving, I never set foot in a car for many years. Finally after seeing a psychologist who helped me sort through my fear, I was able to start driving again.
"Problems do not go away. They must be worked through or else they remain, forever a barrier to the growth and development of the spirit.---M. Scott Peck
You can't afford to sit back and let life beat you up. The choice is yours to make, if you want to move forward you can't allow yourself to be weighted down by the pain of the past. A new day has dawn, it is time to travel down a different path by letting go of the bad and holding on to what is good and healthy. Happy Journey!
