Are You Hearing "The Hum" Where You Live?
The Hum is an Unidentified Phenomenon that Has Scientists Baffled
Scientists in the UK are clueless as to what is causing a strange noise every night. It has been termed "The Hum", and sounds like a car engine running.
This strange phenomenon has been around since the 1970's, and was even the subject of an episode of The X-Files. It's not the sort of noise that is just heard by one person, in the case of the village of Woodland it's being heard by all the residents, and it's keeping them awake at night.
Conspiracy theories have ranged from underground mining activity, to government experiments and extra-terrestrials, but so far the cause of these strange noises has eluded scientists.
Back in the 1970's over 1,000 people in the city of Bristol complained about a constant droning sound, that gave rise to nosebleeds, headaches and sleepless nights.
My ex-mother-in-law back in the 1980's complained about a similar sound where she lived in London that kept her awake at night, but although experiments were made they were unable to trace the cause of the noise.
The sound and subsequent vibration in Woodland has been so strong however that in one house it has been causing a bed to shake.
It's definitely very bizarre, especially for a quiet village that is miles away from busy roads, industrial plants etc.
This story reminded me of one of those old sci-fi movies, Battle Beneath The Earth from 1967, where the Chinese were using lasers to cut tunnels underneath the Pacific Ocean to invade the USA, and one man heard the noises, investigated, but nobody believed him.
With so many government conspiracies going on, who really knows what the cause of this noise could be.
It's quite likely that there is a perfectly logical explanation, but until one is presented, that doesn't stop you thinking of little grey men tunnelling underground, strange government experiments, or even criminals printing counterfeit banknotes in a disused farm building.
It will be definitely interesting to see what the cause of "The Hum" really is, assuming of course that a logical explanation is ever found.

Oh, interesting, but it's quiet here.
All quiet here! :)
What is it Tony? Now you made us curious.
I'll bet it is the Chinese laser tunnels. That would explain everything.
Interesting.
It is also known as the Taos Hum, after one of the towns where it is very common to hear it. I'm not hearing it here, though, thank goodness. I'm crazy enough as it is.
@Effi That's ok, I love to get people laughing. @Laura Thanks, I try...
