Are Humans Free?

Daniel Freeman
The question that I'm sure plagues us as Americans lately is "Am I Free"? Are any of us really free anymore? Were every really free or given any freedoms? The state of the American Government is rapidly changing. There are new laws coming and going without even a glimpse by the general public. The way the system works is that the general population outside of avid voters and party supporters is that we do not really know what is going on.

People have been enslaved one way or another and told that it is freedom since the beginning of man. The Egyptians had slavery. The Romans, The great Empires of Europe. Even our very own red white and blue. Man is a being that needs to be given orders, needs to be shackled to what someone else feels is right or wrong. There are few leaders within our ranks as human beings. And I fear that very few of those leaders have the human race's best interest in mind.

Why are we not free to roam the land and grow our crops and set up a barter system in a lower off the grid economy. Why can we not live in the streets and shoot up our drugs if we don't rob or cause any harm to anyone else. Don't get me wrong this is not the exact society that I want. But why aren't we as humans really free? Why does someone need to tell us when to wake up, when to go to work, and when to come home, all to put food on our tables. This is the kind of structure that we crave naturally.

Man as an animal is incapable of making his own decisions. Homoerectus specifically (obviously what we are today) has always traveled in packs. Has always had one leader making the decision and leading the rest of the group further into evolution. When man is alone he fails. When man bands together as a group he flourishes. This is a basic part of how our brains work and how we have evolved. Mammals in general carry this sort of a trait as a defense mechanism. This protects them from the elements, predators, and keeps the balance of well-being throughout a species.

The main point and case of this is the invention of religion. I am not sure when the first instance of religion was instilled into our brains but I know it was early, and I know it was a necessity. You can see it even today, people clinging to their religion sometimes to keep their sanity. The basics principles of religion is to do good to not go somewhere bad. And the basic points of the doing good are basically just to keep you going. Things that keep you out of trouble and off of the enemies radar. Whether it be insanity, depravity, loneliness, or even something as low as a lack of motivation. We crave this need to move forward. And the only way to do that is by being forced into slavery to whatever master that may be.

I admire the people who are able to go into the mountains and live out their days on the land and take care of themselves. But, more often than not these people live in groups just like the rest of us. And even these people who live "alone" and off the land are hassled by the government. There is no way for the human race to be free as long as there are more humans on this planet.
