Are You Living Life to the Fullest?

A Mother's Point of View

Megan Massey
Given a chance to look inside any person, and see what lies beneath, not the cold mask that we are offer when first meeting one, but seeing the true person within. How would we treat such a treasure? Would we use it to the best of its capabilities, or simply let it tear down kingdoms. That is one thing I have found myself pondering as of late. I myself, am one of the many who, wear masks daily. It is an art form of sorts, to be able to be one person or another whenever you meet someone new.

Though in a line of work, such as seeing new people each day, and trying to calm them, you must be able to adapt. I only wonder, if someone could truly see into the depths of my soul, how they would perceive me, instead of the smiles, and the well kempt form they see. We all have skeletons, though some more than others. What gives us the right then, to believe, that we are able to judge others. Is it the cruelty we are brought up with?

Children every day, treat others with a harshness, that would drive most adults to drink. Screaming names, and breaking the hearts of our babies. I never understood what drives children to be so mean, and so cruel. Is it a simple perception of life? Or does it have something to do with the way the world is changing, and constantly teaching our children to believe the next big fad, is the best thing, and you must be paper thin to be beautiful?

There are times, I thank God, that my children are boys. Though, I have taken to noticing, that even young men these days, are affected by the fashion industry. It is amazing to think, that we as humans, have not changed so much in the time we have spent evolving on this earth. Our one reason to live, is to impress one another. To prove who is the better of us all? Though we look more towards outward beauty, instead of the intelligence which guides us.

Now with the common technology of things like plastic surgery, and sunless tanning, anyone can look like a model, after paying the right price. Though the price of beauty, to me, cannot be tagged. I have come to know, that no matter how beautiful one may be on the outside. It is possible to be hideous within. So what will it take for the world to realize these things? That is the massive question I believe. So many beautiful things are brushed aside, for the next big fad, which is molded by the movies, and the magazines, telling us what to wear. How to look good.. To go along with the crowd.

I am certain most of you who will read this know.. I am not one to ever go along with the crowd, I stick out like a sore thumb. Though I can thank my family for that. I was always taught to be myself, not the person people want me to be, because when you spend your life trying to entertain others, and keep a smile on thier faces. You never truly live.. Love... Or find true happiness. You must find the one thing which you can do for yourself. No longer look to people to tell you what to do, how to dress, how to eat, or how to live.

No matter how many things we do, we will always have only ourselves to answer to. In the end.. Will you be proud of your life, and say you lived it to the fullest?

Well, to be short. Which is funny because I am rather short. Ok I digress. I live in the central/southern part of the US. I enjoy writing, and singing, and I almost have the american dream.  View profile
