Red, White and Blue Cake Dessert

What better way to celebrate the 4th of July than with a red, white and blue cake for dessert. This 4th of July recipe is a great treat as dessert after a Fourth of July luncheon or as a potluck dinner dessert.

Ingredients:

1 store bought Angel Food Cake

1 container of Cool Whip

1 pkg Frozen Strawberries

1 pkg fresh blueberries

Fresh strawberries for garnish

Fresh blueberries for garnish

Instructions:

Cut your cake in half at the mid point from the top and set aside the top half. Scoop out part of the center of the remaining cake forming a well. In a large mixing bowl combine the Cool Whip and frozen strawberries stirring well to mix. Spoon part of the mixture into the well in the bottom half of cake. Place some of the blueberries on top of this mixture. Replace the top half of the cake and use the remaining Cool Whip mixture to frost the cake. Use fresh strawberries and the remainder of the blueberries and garnish on top of and around the sides of the cake at plate level.

Baked Apples on the Grill

Baked apples are a great winter treat hot from the oven but did you know you can make baked apples on the grill? Celebrate Independence Day this year with a 4th of July Baked Apple Bundles Recipe cooked right on the grill. This Fourth of July Recipe is so quick and easy the kids could get involved in preparing this wholesome Fourth of July treat.

Ingredients:

1 red apple for each person washed and cored. (Adult supervision required when coring.)

Small container of cinnamon

Small container of sugar

Raisins (optional)

Heavy Duty Aluminum Foil

Butter, margarine or butter flavor cooking spray

Instructions:

1 square of aluminum foil for each apple, doubled. Place the apple in the center of the sheet. Put one small dollop of butter or margarine in the center of the apple, or spray into the center with cooking spray. Add 1 tsp of sugar and ½ tsp of cinnamon to the center of the apple. Fill remainder of core with raisins, optional. Loosely fold aluminum foil up over the apple being careful not to tear the foil and seal with double folds.
