Are Mongrels Suitable Pets?

Klaun
It is amazing how people can only give their love and caring to a thoroughbred animal and shoo away a mongrel. Doesn't strike them that a mongrel is also a dog and has all the attributes of making a good pet? In fact there are many more benefits in adopting a stray who will be ever grateful to you for giving him a home. You can house train them the same way you would go about training a pure blue blooded one and once he is in your care he can be bathed and de-ticked and de-wormed and be just as great as any other dog.

This is actually a breed which has many breeds in its blood strain and this makes it a lot more hardy and immune to diseases. The thorough bred on the other hand has gone through a lot of inbreeding which makes it susceptible to a lot more infections and deformities which inbreeding brings. A lot of people prefer these pets as a status symbol and not because they want to love and take care of a dog. If you are a true dog lover give a home to one of the strays which follows you on the road or go to an animal enclosure and pick up the most sorry and lost looking one.

A stray will give you his undying love and affection and be ever grateful to you for taking him in. Once you have given him the once over and spruced him up all he needs is a good diet to make his coat as shiny and soft as that of his better breed cousins. When I walk my big burly mongrel down the road on his leash a lot of people come up to me and ask me what breed he is. This amazes me because I know nothing about his origin and he just walked in on us one day and my grand daughters adopted him. He fathered most of the pups on my road until I decided to put an end to this trend and now he is a happy stay at home dog with not much interest in the female species. Coal as he has been named is an amazing creature.

A good diet and lots of love will do wonders for your pet and make him look like the king of his street. It would take very little on your part to make a stray happy and this hardy breed will give you many more years of companionship than the others, because he has a strong strain in him with nothing to make him buckle under the stress of inbreed ailments. A fine pet indeed.
