Speaking strictly economically, what is going on when things like the following are occurring on a constant basis:
China and most of the industrialized world cautioning Obama to NOT monetize our debt with more "quantitative easing" (stimulus).
Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke swearing under oath to no more "easing" and then announcing the Fed will "print" between $600 Billion and $900 Billion new American greenbacks, thus more easing?
A former Obama Commerce Secretary nominee says the US is currently on an "unsustainable track."
The National Association for Business Economics cautions that throughout 2011 US economy will be slow "in the face of persistently high unemployment and heavy debt burdens."
Obama's refusing thus far to admit keeping ALL Bush tax cuts will cause growth. Couple this with his constant claim that "we can't pay for the tax cuts," which is a complete lie as history proves again and again and again that tax cuts always pay for themselves.
So far chatter from the administration types and Pelosi are that the Obama debt commission chair's plan, called Bowles/Simpson, is "'simply unacceptable,' and other Democrats indicate no more interest in making even minor modifications in Social Security..."
That's a rather extensive list of indictments that point to the president and Democrat Congressional leaders having little interest in fixing the severe economic challenges this nation faces. All but the Keynesian economists like Paul Krugman are in rather sound agreement across the board that spending cuts must be made, as well as making the Bush Tax Cuts permanent, for any hope of mitigating our current economic situation.
What of talk of more Stimulus, the infamous "QE2?" What of Democrat insistence that SSI cannot be altered to raise retirement ages, lifting the cap on yearly contributions, etc? What of any insane considerations of more bailouts for Fannie or Freddie?
When we look to the east and see the mess the EU, specifically Greece, Spain, Ireland, et al, are enjoying, how does this nation head off those realities? To see the future one need only look to the past, or in this case, to the east to see where we are headed and damned soon if we do not make sincere and immediate course corrections.
Folks, we have the answers as to how to mitigate these issues but partisan progressive ideology will not allow it, nor will the partisan progressive political leaders. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of all of this the tax cut issue.
Consider this: in partisan political struggles tax cuts are historically favored by the right and held as non-starters by the left. Yet today in our current situation, here are Democrats ADMITTING tax cuts are needed to spur growth. How do these two situations dovetail? Isn't it plainly obvious that when backed against the wall Democrats admit tax cuts will help? Doesn't that then totally expose them for the partisan politico's they are for ever standing against tax cuts on their ideological principles?
Isn't this more than sufficient proof that long before what's best for the nation, progressives look to what's best for their political futures? Keeping in mind the progressive voters, isn't this clear? When a party's political base is built on playing class warfare and a constant pitting their voters against each other as well as what's best for an entire nation, are they then not completely exposed? I can't fathom this as it is as plain as the nose on one's face.
Therefore, for all BUT the die hard progressive whose ideology is dependent upon Keynesian foolishness, isn't this the last nail in their coffin? How can it not be? When backed against a wall they admit by their tacit acceptance, that indeed tax cuts spur growth.
Oh, I forgot. It's because they hold themselves out as the ideology that cares about the poor, minorities and the less fortunate. Yet isn't common sense clear that the best way to lift the less fortunate out of poverty and their less than ideal circumstances is to make the entire nation more efficient with a better and stronger economy? By cutting taxes and spurring growth many of the less fortunate are given an opportunity for a job and a hope for a better life.
The truth is progressives need an underclass or they have no base of voters. They need minorities to be their base and to keep them they play the "only WE care about you" card. The truth is, ideologically speaking, that conservatism lifts everyone, as in "a rising tide lifts all boats?" And when push comes to shove and their backs are in a corner, progressives even acknowledge this.
So how then can they ever get away in future with denying what they are now all clearly embracing? Are their supporters that damned obtuse? I know the underclasses want no tax cuts cause they don't pay them, but what of working men and women so misguided as to believe progressives and Democrats actually care about them?
Aren't lefties talking out of both sides of their mouths exposed? I simply do not get how anyone can see this today and then will ever place an ounce of trust in a party that plays the way Democrats and their far more ideological and evil friends, progressives, play the game. Think about it! Makes no damned logical sense at all! None!
