Are the Paparazzi Going Too Far with Celebrities?

Tyra Speaks Out to the Paparazzi

Maya Anderson
So, I'm sitting back on my couch waiting to catch another Tyra episode when really I should be on my way to the gym. Usually, I wait until the last minute to find out what the topic of the show is on and today wasn't any different. When I found out the subject was based on the paparazzi and the way they hunt for celebrities, I was very excited. I couldn't wait to see whose side Tyra was going to be on. I don't know why I was surprised to find out that she was on the celebrities' side. Duh!!

The beginning of the show opened up with behind-the-scene footage of what the paparazzi go through just to get that cover shot. This segment specifically focused on two paparazzi men who spend, what seems like 24 hours a day, trailing countless leads that will put them face to face with the celebrity of the public's interest. While watching these two men respectfully seek out their targets, I began to understand them and sympathize with their ambition for their job. These are generic human beings who are trying to live check-to-check like many of us. There were no reckless car chasing or indecent conducts. The two men worked quietly, fast, and specific.

As the show continued on, Tyra used her platform as a way to get the paparazzi to admit that they do lurk after celebrities and that many of them do cross the line more than they think. This is when I really began to get frustrated. I'm sitting there, thinking to myself: "How in the world can she protect these celebrities". If you really think about it; how many of these celebrities do you think grew up and said to themselves how they wish everyone knew them and hoped for people to always want their autographs and pictures? So why do they now act as if they can just whimper about the attention they've begged for and magically make it disappear?

If you ask me, I think that the paparazzi are the ones who deserve the Emmy Awards, the Grammy, and the Best Dressed! Without the paparazzi, who will these stars be? And what about the numerous times that the celebrities hound the paparazzi; demanding their attention so that they can try to make their way back onto the "A" list? They're going to regret it when they get older--Britney, Lindsey, and whoever else. The only celeb that may not regret anything will be, of course, the one and only Paris Hilton. When Britney Spears is 79 years old and the world is no longer paying attention to her, I bet you any amount of money that she will have a shrine of herself, somewhere in her house, trying her best to remember what it was like when the world was obsessed with HER.

Imagine if you could just walk on the Tyra show and complain about your job. Imagine if you could sit down on Tyra's pretty white sofa and explain to her how the customers you deal with need to quit "crossing the line". Knowing Tyra, she probably would do a show about it, but that's not the point. The point is that all of us have jobs. Whether we are homemakers, volunteers, businesspeople, or just regular people trying to make it day to day; there are many things that we must deal with within our jobs and complaining isn't going to make it any better. If you don't like your job then just quit! Give it to someone who does want it.

I think paparazzi should cover celebrities only if they want to be covered. That's my personal opinion.

Hey :) I just want to clarify and say that I don't think hazardous paparazzi situations are okay. The point I'm trying to make is that the celebrities purposely put themselves into these situations whether it's causing commotion on purpose just to land the front mag or whether it's purposely calling the paparazzi's themselves. How is it that celebrities like Denzel Washington, Jada and Will Smith, and other A-listers can live a successful paparazzi life but Paris and Lindsey can't? If celebrities want to live a discreet life from time to time, there is a way for them to do so. However, most of them choose not to. On that note, I do think there should be a law that protects ANYONE from media hazards. Thanks for reading

first of all nice name, second I get your point of view and I get that celebrity's asked for the attention they have but the paparazzi go overboard so much more than some-times they jump over fences! how is that not what you would class as 'overboard' if it isn't you are seriously retarded.... or need a docter

I agree that some celebrities like the attention, but we weren't "obsessed" with Britney Spears. We made fun of her, and who likes that? And whats the big deal with chasing them around and paying children to lay down in front of their cars to get a good picture (Madonna). I don't think that they like it when people find out they weren't wearing underwear...that is really awkward and embarassing. Who wants that? It's stupid and unreasonable. I mean, I guess it's okay if it's on the street or something, because there's no law against that. But tailgating and taking pictures of them at home? Thats...unreasonably retarded.

Wanting to be famous shouldn't mean you have to give up your complete right to privacy 24/7. There need to be well defined boundaries for paparazzi action and I think, quite frankly, they should be limited to times when the star is actually working: famous restaurants, red carpet events, public announcements, etc. Otherwise they should have the same expectations of privacy as the rest of us: being able to pick up dry cleaning, taking their kids to school, going grocery shopping, etc without a hoard of photographers. I'm now being much more careful of what pictures I look at just because I think it's getting out of hand.

Sometimes paparzzi do things to make celebrities commit wrong or fall. Paparzzi's have caused celebrities to crash because they are hounding them. There should be laws that hold paparazzi a minimum of 100 ft away. So that the celebrities can walk with their children without tripping. paparazzi should be limited from special family events, such as weddings , and funerals.

It is funny how you only see certain celebrities being hounded by the paparazzi. I believe most these celebrities know exactly what they are doing. They know what to do to stay in the public eye. Although the paparazzi must also show some respect for privacy. I do not think it is harmful when a celebrity is at an event or night club, but when they are seen living, common, leave them alone! Enjoyed your article; nice job!
