Are Parents Compensated for Their Roles?

Are parents held in esteem the way they should be? Are they valued as much as Doctors and Rocket scientists, or are they on the same level as fast food workers and garbage men. These questions are difficult to answer and come into conflict with Davis' theory. The conflict comes with question of whether or not anyone can become a parent. What makes a parent, who can be classified as parents?

To start off, parents are not appreciated as much as they should be, because there are so many off them. Everyone may not believe they have the ability to be a doctor or an engineer, but most people believe they could be parents. Now on the other hand, this doesn't necessarily mean that they believe they could become good parents. To me, Parenting is so much more then producing and birthing a child. Its about leading that child through their early years and guiding them in the right direction. These are the "good parents". The parents who actually have a positive influence on society. These individuals should be held in high esteem, and should be much more appreciated then they are, but I think that the shear number of good parents prevents this from happening. Anyone can become a good parent; anyone can learn. And one society's definition of good parenting can be completely different then another's.

I'm not exactly sure if parents should be compensated anymore then what the already are though. Because at the end of the day, god parenting doesn't always produce good, honest citizens. And even if it does, they fact that the parents helped create a positive member of society should be enough compensation. Parents are much more personal, as oppose to doctors. Parents will be held in high esteem by their children, but why should anyone else hold them in high esteem. But at the same time, parents of individuals like Martin Luther King and Mother Theresa aren't famous and individuals like these help create peaceful movements . Did there parents not have any influence over them? Should they not be held in high regard?

At the end of the day I think parents are underappreciated because its difficult to judge someone based on the actions of another individual(their children). So if someone's child does good things for society, that doesn't necessarily mean that their parents did something good for society as well.
