Are People Born Gay?

Karl Withakay
First, let me begin by saying that I am a heterosexual man. I support gay marriage too. It is my opinion that "any kind of love is alright". I think that the politicians of this country have a lot more important things to worry about than same sex marriages being legal or not. That being said, I'll begin.

Have you ever noticed that some gay men are rather feminine? Not just in the way they act but in the their body structure, their voice, the fact that they can't grow a thick beard or a beard at all. What about some lesbian women? Sure there are some that are rather feminine but many of them are more than just a short haircut. Many lesbians in addition to the short hair, have broad shoulders and instead of having curves, they have a thick build. There may be something to this. I'll explain.

Testosterone

Testosterone is a hormone found in abundance in the male body. Now women have testosterone in their body but not much. Men have much, much more testosterone in their body than women do. Testosterone is the reason why a man can build more muscle mass than a woman can in their body. Testosterone is the reason why men have a hairy chest and can grow a beard and women do not or cannot. Testosterone is the primary thing that gives men their sex drive.

Estrogen

Estrogen is a hormone found in abundance in the female body. Men have a little bit of Estrogen in their body but not much at all. Estrogen is what gives a woman her sexy curves. Estrogen and a lack of Testosterone is what keeps a woman from growing a beard. Think of it, when a woman goes though Menopause, it's common for her to grow a bit of facial hair. This is because of a decrease in estrogen levels.

The Balance

As a heterosexual man, my testosterone level is a great deal higher than my estrogen level. My wife (a heterosexual female), her estrogen level is a great deal higher than her testosterone level. I know a woman who is a lesbian. She's a great gal. She has short hair, she's about 6 foot and 2 inches tall, she has broad shoulders and has a thick build. Her voice isn't what I'd call masculine but it does lack the feminine pitch that one expects from a woman. I grew up with a guy in school. He didn't call himself gay. He had a lot of girlfriends too. However, that's just what they were, FRIENDS and nothing more. This guy had a petite build and was a bit curvy, he would try to grow a mustache at times but it would come in very thin and in patches. His voice was rather feminine as well. A few years after graduation, he came out and told everyone that he was gay.

What Makes Those People Like This?

What makes these people so different from the heterosexual masses? Well I would bet that my wife's estrogen level is much greater than that of the lesbian that I mentioned in the last paragraph. I would bet that the particular lesbian that I mentioned has a higher testosterone level than my wife does. It's likely a similar situation with the gay man I mentioned as well. Many of these people are born with a hormone imbalance. If the estrogen in my body was much higher and my testosterone level was much lower than it should be, I'd likely be gay too.

It's my belief that people CAN indeed be born gay. People need to get a grip and accept gays and lesbians as who they are. Individuals that have the right to love and fall in love with whom ever they please.
