Are the Politicians Really Feeling Threatened by Stephen Colbert?

Nicholos Poma B.S.
I have been paying close attention to the cable news shows and I am a little bewildered that they seem to be treating the candidacy of Stephen Colbert with some bit of trepidation and seriousness. I have heard the talking heads actually discuss the possibility of the Colbert campaign posing an actual threat and even becoming a determining factor in the nomination for the next Presidential candidate.

It was reported that Stephen Colbert actually polls very well among Democrats. The news analyst seems to marvel that Colbert would appeal to the Democratic base considering his show on Comedy Central actually tends to portray him as a Republican. I believe however, that the audience does understand that his faux Republican issues are just that.

The cable news shows have even gone so far as to actually create a serious debate as to whether he can receive financial help from his network, Comedy Central, or even his ringing endorsement from Doritos, those triangular snacks which are bursting with crispy goodness. By the end of the debate it was determined that he could not use monies made from the chip company, however, Stephen Colbert is always one step ahead of the political pundits and has determined that while he could not use the Doritos money to fund his campaign coffers, he could instead use the revenue generated by his show, "The Colbert Report" as a perfectly acceptable source of financial backing since it is his own money generated by his own employment.

We must ask ourselves why these politicians are so worried about an obvious non-campaign. Well, perhaps it is because the American people are very dissatisfied with the direction that the country is going, and anything different would be better than what we have now. Perhaps it is because the polls show that the public's opinion of the White House and the Congress are completely in the toilet. Either way it is going to be interesting to see them try to destroy Colbert like a pack of rabid wolves.

I guess it goes to show you that these news analyst and politicians will take anybody as a threat to their own power seriously and they must crush any attempt at changing the status quo, whether it is a joke or not.

Colbert is so stale. How many comics have run for president through the years? The late Pat Paulsen, of course, and the columnist Dave Barry, to name two off the top of my head. One of the Smothers Brothers, maybe? There are countless others. ..... I also have a question for today's talk show comics that goes back to Johnny Carson. When Johnny took a vacation, he had guest hosts -- Bill Cosby, Bob Newhart, Joan Rivers, etc. He was self confident enough to feel secure. But Leno, Letterman, Colbert .... that other Comic TV guy, I'm proud to say I can't immediately think of his name ..... OK, I got it, Jon Stewart .... when they take vacations, they air RERUNS instead of having guest hosts. It's like they're afraid a good guest host might upstage them. They're a very insecure bunch, it seems.
