Are Poodles Really Intelligent?

Nancy Clyne
The Poodle is generally recognized to be the most clever of all of the canine race. Most dog owners believe that poodles are considered to be high maintenance and that they demand a lot of one-on-one care. It perhaps is correct that to keep a poodle in exhibition order and flawless cleanliness his/her owner needs to devote additional time and care that is not necessary in the case of other breeds. However, most poodle owners believe that there is no other canine that is so intensely fascinating and amenable as a poodle.

Some people believe that the character of a poodle and their intelligence are so keen that there is something virtually human like in their attractiveness and devotion. Their are numerous stories of their aptitude in learning and incredible talent.

The poodle is known to be a wonderful show dog. Poodles are adept at performing tricks; they can be schooled and trained to walk the tight rope and stand on their heads. However, it is their alertness of brain that separates them from other canines.

Corded Poodles are really good show dogs, since they tend to attract a good deal of public attention when showed. This is because of their extraordinary appearance however they have dropped in popularity among nearly all enthusiasts, and have become fewer in number due to the apparent reality that it's unrealistic to make pets of them or have them in the family home.

The cause of this is that the coat should often be oiled in order to preserve the cords and keep them flexible and keep them from breaking, and, naturally, as their coats can't be groomed, the only means of keeping the dog clean is to wash him, and with a corded Poodle it can tend to be a drawn-out and backbreaking procedure. On top of that the coat can require hours to dry, and unless the freshly dampened dog is kept in a warm room they are likely to catch cold. The result is, that the coats of corded Poodles are nearly always filthy, and slightly smelly.
