But even though the lotions and creams won't prevent you from getting stretch marks, they can help to decrease the itchiness associated with your growing skin and decreasing the itchiness means decreasing the amount of scratching you will do, which in turn, will help to decrease the severity of the stretch marks.
Chances are if your mother got stretch marks when she was pregnant with you, you too will get stretch marks during your pregnancy. However, the good news is, you may luck out and only get a few. It all depends on the elasticity of your skin. Unfortunately, I was one of the women who got a lot of stretch marks with my first pregnancy, and yes, I did get even more with my subsequent pregnancies.
Believe me, I know how it feels to see that first stretch mark pop up. It made me want to cry! And then to see them continue to pop up through the duration of my pregnancies made it even worse. I wouldn't allow anyone to see my belly uncovered. I got them bad!! And that's not even the worst part. As I'm sure you know, the stretch marks won't just be limited to your belly. During pregnancy you can also see stretch marks popping up on your breasts and hips, as well as occasionally on other areas of your body. Oh, the joys of pregnancy.
Luckily though, as time passes after you deliver, the stretch marks will fade considerably until they are hardly noticeable. So, my advice is to not spend money on those creams and lotions expecting them totally prevent you from getting stretch marks during your pregnancy, because you'd just be wasting your money. Not to mention, by thinking that buying and using the creams and lotions will prevent the stretch marks, you will endure more heartbreak and disappointment when the first stretch marks rears its ugly head, then you would if you'd just expected to have them from the beginning.
So don't fret too much about those nasty stretch marks. You'll either be one of us unlucky ones that gets them, or you will be one of those women that doesn't get them and is envied by those of us that do. In the end though, when you're holding that precious bundle of joy in your arms, the stretch marks will no longer matter to you as they were just a part of bringing that wonderful little person into your life and entirely worth it.
