Are Protein Bars Actually Good for You?

Protein bars have had a significant impact on the weight loss and bodybuilding community. There is still a huge debate on whether protein bars are nutritious or not, but in my opinion they are. Certain protein bars do different things. Some serve to provide as a source of protein, and that's it. Others supply some protein, but also some vitamins and minerals. Each protein bar has a certain job, and your job is to pick the best one. I think protein bars are a very effective food for a variety of reasons. Here are a few reasons that protein bars are beneficial to you.

Build muscle, lose weight - Protein has been proven to help burn fat, so an easily accessible protein means easier weight loss. Just be sure not to overindulge on them, as a few brands have unwanted fats.

Protein bars can taste good! - Yes I know how crazy that might sound, but it is true. I have recently been eating protein bars by Clif, specifically the Builder's bar by Clif. These taste just like a candy bar. Chocolate Mint tastes just like a mint chocolate Girl Scout cookie, and Peanut Butter tastes like, well, chocolate covered peanut butter. Each of the Builder's bars is described as "cocoa dipped double decker crisp bars, which sums up the taste enough for me.

Perfect for on the go - Whether you are going from school to a game, work to a workout, or anything like that, protein bars are a perfect resource for energy. With plenty of protein, vitamins and minerals, and carbohydrates, protein bars can give you that extra boost of energy that you've been looking for.

Nutrient Rich - Most protein bars have an array of vitamins and minerals. Many protein bars have over 20 vitamins and minerals in each bar, which means they supply a big a portion of your daily needs.

What to watch out for - With all of these great, healthy reasons to eat protein bars, there are a few things to be aware of. Many bars contain soy or peanut products, so if you are allergic to anything like this, be careful of what bar you choose. Also, along with huge amounts of protein generally comes a huge amount of fat or sugar. Many companies will put more fat and sugar in a bar to make it taste better. These will not be helping your diet so be sure to take a look at the nutrition facts before buying a bar.

Whether you are an athlete, student, parent, or whatever, protein bars are great. They are a great substitute for a meal if you are short on time, and they supply a huge amount of nutrients.
