Are You Ready to Make a Commitment? - MyCommitment.org

Ideas on How YOU Can Make the World a Better Place!

Recently I saw Bill Clinton on TV talking about the Clinton Global Initiative (CBI). He was talking about one of the projects of CBI, MyCommitment.org. Even though I don't particularly care for the Clintons, I can't ignore the wonderful things they are doing here and have to give credit where credit is due!

MyCommitment.org is described on the website as "Citizens around the world are making commitments to better the world", and wants to know what YOUR commitment will be. This is a fabulous site set up for all of us to proclaim our commitments to the world.

Some recent commitments made:

One man in California is making a Visual Health Communication commitment. He says, "I commit to developing an outdoor Video communication program designed to broadcast Health promotion and/or Civic and Human Rights information to the public in communities and institutions. INFORMATION CAN RECLAIM AND TRANSFORM A GENERATION"

Amy Adams from Illinois has a great story and has made the commitment to "do all I can for the children, families, and individuals to help provide basic life sustaining elements that way too many of us take for granted." You can read her story and commitment here, IF YOU ONLY KNEW...Extreme Poverty in Full View - What Would YOU Do?

Jesse West of Arkansas has made the commitment to Grant A Wish to "at least one child who is terminally ill, inspire others to do the same, and give hope to those who need it the most."

If you want to find Volunteer Opportunites in your area you can search the Volunteer Database on the site. You can seach by interest, zipcode or state and international or home/virtual. There's no excuse for not commiting to something.

I really love that you can do simple things from home that really can make a difference in someone's life! This means that people who might be homebound or who are very busy or for whatever reason can't give with time or money, they can still give and help others right from home! It will also tell you who each position might be best for (seniors, teens, groups, etc.).

For those of you that are gifted in writing, the Chelsea Foundation is looking for 100 volunteers to dedicate 3 hours per month to help with the publishing of a children's newspaper (not newsletter) that's designed to "motivate and elevate children toward their dreams by offering them ideas that help them to set goals, achieve them, and thus meet their challenges.". They have their own editing team so your actual writing skills aren't even all that important, as long as you can tell a good story! Does this "Creative Writing for Children" opportunity sound like something that might connect with you? If so, check out the details!

There are really so many opportunities, virtual and otherwise, that you've got to check them out!

What's that you say? None of the opportunites listed fit into anything you want to do? That's okay too! You can always find another organization that interests you and contact them directly to see what you can do to help. Better yet, come up with your own unique idea and you never know what it will turn into. You could end up running your own organization or even inventing something that could make a HUGE difference in people's lives!

The only thing between a dream staying a dream and making it a reality is ACTION! One small thing could help make a difference in the life of one person, which could help that community, which could help that country, which could help the world. Your dollar, hour or even an act of kindness really can make a difference if we all pitch in. Find something that touches you so that you can touch others!
