Are You Ready to Get Married? Five Things to Know Before Tying the Knot

Ben Himself
If I could have anything said about me, I would want people to remember me as strong man when I died. In the Bible, Job has probably one the greatest things ever said about anyone in Job 1:1 which says, "There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shuned evil." I would hope that every man would strive to have something like that written on there tombstone when they died. The Bible has given guidlines as to what every man should be. I hope that I will be able to help someone by breaking those down into 5 points.

1. The man must be Reconciled to God. This means that the man must have a testimony of being saved by the blood of Jesus. Being a born again believer in other words. 2 Corinthians 6:14 says, "Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?" The Bible is clear to point out that the two coming into union must be equally yoked or both saved. It is a dangerous game to say that you will make your life partner a Christian when you become married. It is easier to fall down a steep hill, than to keep climbing day after day.

2. The man must have a Reverence for God. This means that the man must fear the Lord and abide by His laws. Proverbs 24:21 says, "My son, fear the Lord." While Proverbs 9:10 says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." The reason why this point is so important is because if the man does not abide by Gods laws, he will lack wisdom and spiritual guidance. The man MUST be the spiritual leader of the home. So this is essential for a strong marriage.

3. The man must be Righteous in his behavior. A righteous man lives above reproach through his actions. Psalm 5:12 says, "For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield." Proverbs 12:13 says, "The wicked is ensnared by the trangression of his lips, But the righteous will come through trouble." Finally Proverbs 24:16 says, "For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again, But the wicked shall fall by calamity." I don't think I need to drive in why this is so important for a future husband to have. A man who is righteous will be blessed by God along with his children.

4. The man must be Responsible with his duties. In other words a man who takes care of his family will make a good husband. Proverbs 21:5 says, "The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, But those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty." A man who doesn't know how to provide for his family shouldn't be a husband in the first place. A huge question to answer is, Are you responsible enough for the well being of yourself?

5. The man is finally Respectful to authority. Are you respectful to your parents, boss, or even God. Proverbs 19:26 says, "He who mistreats his father and chases away his mother is a son who causes shame and brings reproach." If you run away from authority because they are dumb or not as smart as you, it most definately will come back to haunt you. Usually with the disrespect of your children. People who disrespect others won't have respect themselves.
I hope this has helped you out. It is my first blog, so I am just getting a feel for it. I know that these have helped me with my preparation into what God has in store for my future. Thank you for your time.
