The most important thing to take into consideration is making sure everybody is healthy. Make sure you go to all check-ups during your pregnancy. When you get closer to the time of delivery these doctor visits can be needed more frequently. You might have to go see the doctor up to two times a week. That is why you have to ask yourself "do I have medical insurance that takes care of the costs of these visits"? You could end up paying a lot of money towards health care if you do not have medical insurance that covers it.
It is expensive to be pregnant and give birth, but it gets a lot more expensive once you have the baby. Children cost a lot of money. Are your finances in order now? You probably qualify for some help but it really is not something to rely on. Being financially sane is a better way to go. You might have to work more or you might have to cut down on your spending to reach that goal.
How and where you live now needs to be taken in consideration too. Did you purchase a house or are you in a rental? Is the place you live in now big enough to raise a child in. You might want to consider what to do with this problem. You can have your child sleep in your room for a little while, but sooner or later you are going to have to deal with this. Moving to another place is very stressful. Maybe you should take steps to do so before you are even pregnant.
Make sure you know how your partner thinks about starting a family. It is advisable to raise a child together with the dad, even though our society seems to accept that there are single moms who got pregnant by a sperm donor. Even for single moms it is beneficial to be able to rely on some support of the bio dad. Married men are usually very satisfied with the idea that their women are expecting. You need to however address the fact that you want to become a mom before you are pregnant. You have to make sure that both of you are on the same frequency here.
Think about all these things before you decide to become a mom. Unexpected pregnancies do happen, but usually you have time to plan and prepare. Talk to your doctor and talk to your family. Read up on the subject in books and online.
