Are Republicans Scared that Health Care Reform Might Work?

Jacob Horn
My dad and I were recently swapping rumors about the current health care bill and my dad asked a question that I have asked myself at least 43 times a day for the past couple of months. Dad said, "Can all of them really be wrong?" Dad was referring to the Democrats and their support of the health care bill. If you listen to conservative media outlets or Republican politicians you will hear that this health care bill being debated in Washington D.C. is going to destroy our country and our health care system. I think Dad's question is on the minds of many Republicans and conservatives right now. We are asking, "Why would every single Democrat be behind this bill if it is really going to destroy our country and health care system?" I mean, contrary to popular belief, liberals and Democrats are pretty intelligent people. Most of the Ivy League colleges are made up of liberal professors and we consider them to be among the best schools in the United States. This question has also led me to another question. Are Republicans scared that this health care reform could actually work and make things better? Just imagine if the economy gets back on track (all indications seem to be in a positive direction regarding the economy) and this health care reform turns out to be a really good thing. Republicans will not see the White House or majorities in Congress for the next 568 years. Being a fairly strong conservative myself, I do not believe that Republicans would jeopardize something that could help our country but it does pose an interesting question.
