Are the Rumors True? is Verizon to Finally Get the Apple IPhone in 2011?

You've heard it before "Verizon iPhone is coming," but this time, rumors seem to be coming from more credible sources including the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and MSNBC, among many, many more credible sources. Previously, we've heard rumors of a Verizon iPhone through lesser known websites and blogs; but does this sudden onslaught of more credible sources prove any more that a Verizon iPhone is truly coming?

Rumors Surround Verizon iPhone

Though I, myself, would be thrilled for a Verizon iPhone; I have to wonder if yet again, we're being hyped up over nothing. However, previous occurences have taught us that both Apple and Verizon have denied, denied, denied; when it's come to previous reports. However, according to Julianne Pepitone of CNN Money, the "Verizon CEO [has stayed] silent on iPhone."

Does this mean that the rumors are true? Possibly. Who knows?

Though there are so many reports coming in during the past few hours on this Friday evening, no one seems to be sure when the iPhone will actually be available to view in stores or be available for sale. Some reports speculate it could be as early as Tuesday's announcement, while others state January or perhaps even for sale by next Christmas.

However, it should be noted that today, AT&T reduced prices on it's 2009 iPhone 3GS to a measly $49. Is this AT&T's attempt at grabbing a few more customers before they lose their iPhone following to Verizon?

Unfortunately, some reports are stating that Verizon is only making the announcement that their network will not support the Apple iPhone. This, of course, obviously means that just because they're stating that the phone will be supported, does not, in any way, suggest that Apple is going to be producing an iPhone for the network. In fact, some further speculate that this could be another tactic from Verizon to secure the iPhone.

So, what do you think? Do you think the rumors about the 2011 Verizon iPhone are true? Or, do you think this is just another attempt by Apple (and possibly Verizon) to bring more attention onto the iPhone and off it's competitors, such as the Google Android and the various other "4G" phones that are becoming increasingly available on the market today.

I, for one, hope the rumors are true. Though I'll likely wait a few months to let the hype (and the price) die down before I pick up my Verizon iPhone.
