Are You a Senior Looking to Learn New Things?

Get in Touch with Your Local Community College

If you are a senior over the age of 65 and would like to learn new things then call up your local community college. Most community colleges will offer classes free to seniors. All you have to do is sign up for class or show up the first day of class and you will be given access to all the resources paying students receive. Classes offered free of charge will differ from campus to campus. Most community colleges open up their continuing education and crafts and skills classes for free to senior citizens.

Classes that I have seen offered for free to seniors within the North Carolina Community College program include computing classes, craft and hobby courses, machine shop, history and music classes. You can sign up for guitar lessons, flower arranging, small engine repair, and even a class on the use of digital cameras. And, if you feel confident enough with a computer, you can even take classes online. If there is something that you would like to learn, chances are your local community college will have a class to match!

The North Carolina Community College system is very welcoming of its senior student body. Campuses across the state have teemed with local senior activity centers and will often offer classes off campus to meet the needs of their students. Many other states are working toward reaching out to senior citizens in the same way.

I have even taught a few computer classes to seniors and have loved every minute of it! I teach computer courses on topics such as Introduction to Computing, Keyboarding, Windows XP, and Ebay Buying and Selling. I always look forward to my senior students because for me they are the most engaging and enjoyable to work with. And, I know that my fellow instructors feel likewise.

If taking a class is not the thing for you, then maybe you would like to teach one. Most community colleges are open to seniors coming on campus to teach and share their skills with others. Or, if you would rather a class might be set up at the local senior center in conjunction with the college. So, if you have an idea for a class you would like to teach and share with others, contact your local community college to set it up. Share you knowledge and love for music, quilting, machine repair, video editing and more with students in your area!
