Are Some Cartoon Characters Promoting Homosexuality?

Michael Grisso
I can definitely say I am not sure when all of this started, but I have a pretty good idea of how. Group of kids anywhere from 13-18 years of age are all sitting around the a lunch table at the cafeteria talking about nothing like they should be in a Seinfeld episode when one of them stops and says, "My little brother that's 4 was watching Barney today and well I gotta tell ya that big purple thing has got to be gay." Then it begins, a new conversation that follows with, "Oh ya he's got to be gay do you see how he prances around the television my little sister watches that." After a moment Barney turns into Bert and Ernie, then Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, the Power Puff Girls and many others. Lunch time ends and all of those kids go back to their classrooms and start talking to other students about the hilarious conversation they had at lunchtime.

As the word of mouth spreads it becomes a hot topic until one of the students goes home and then it gets a little bigger. Sitting down for dinner the parents simply ask, "How was your day?" Which of course starts off as "it was fine" or something like that one of these students tell their parents. Some will do nothing and laugh it off, however others will go and take a closer look at these characters and sure enough with "Gay" in their minds they see some stupid little gesture that looks feminine or like its promoting homosexuality.

Then this parent through conversation speaks to other parents of course in which some are religious or Christian or spiritual or whatever, and then the story gets even bigger. Next thing you know its Sunday and some are talking to each other after service saying, "You won't believe what I found out! Can you believe that 3 of the 7 dwarfs are gay? I can't believe I let my child watch that crap!" So now word is really spreading, and it eventually hits someone that wants to do something about it fight the system or whatever, ban this or ban that.

Which brings us to the present and all the affiliations that these characters have with homosexuality. All I have to say is, "DO YOU KNOW HOW ABSURD THAT SOUNDS!" While it may be fun to some to joke about this it only takes one person to over hear it and turn it into some ridiculous problem with in our society. If you really want gay cartoons do a Google search on just that "gay cartoons" and the first two links that pop-up are not of Brutus and Popeye, no they are of gay cartoon porn.

I was a firm believer that there was no such thing until I stumbled upon a small cafe near where I live only to over hear a conversation. "Snuffy its okay buddy, people will except us the way we are eventually. We can't stay in the closet forever, come here and give me a hug." Waddling on all fours Snuffleupagus moved over to lay his head on Big Bird's shoulder and replied, "I know I know Big B, it will be nice when we can just come clean and show all the children that have watched our show over the years who we truly are. That way the parents will be upset and no longer let the kids watch our show and they'll take us off the air. Then you and I can get married in a church that will allow us to." I wanted to get their autographs but they seemed like they were talking about some serious issues.

Ha-ha-ha, give me a break. When did we start treating fictional characters like real actors. However if it is set in stone that you think cartoon characters and fictional ones in general are gay then you will enjoy this article. Its time to let the fictional characters stay that way for our kids sake.

I believe Cartoon Network actually puts down homosexuality, seeing as all the "gay" characters are either evil (Him, the Red Guy, etc.) or get hurt a lot (Jimmy).

I will say I woke up on the couch one night to Adult Swim located on the Cartoon Network and it was pretty gross.

Speaking of cartoons, when I watched "Dumbo" as an adult, I thought, oh my, those guys (whoever made it) were tripping and no wonder "my" generation got turned on by LSD.
