Are You Still Waiting?

Day 50 - a Year with God

Marilyn Quinn
Do you feel like God tells you to do things? Or have you yet to experience that? Are you waiting for God to give you a sign that something is right or wrong? Someone sent me a twitter quote that said, "When suffering comes, we yearn for some sign from God, forgetting we have just had one."

That's the thing; most of us aren't looking for something to go wrong to know that God is working in our lives. We are asking and praying for good things and we sometimes forget that when we ask God for something, sometimes the answer is no. Sometimes we have received our negative answer and are still waiting because we don't want to believe that God didn't give it to us.

There are many decisions we take everyday that dictate the outcomes of our lives. What happens when we stubbornly refuse to see that God is wanting us to move on from our current path? If we are continuing to struggle and feel grief and not make progress in a certain endeavor; surely we should conclude it wasn't meant to be.

The Eighth Beatitude says "Blessed are they who suffer persecution for justice sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Suffering persecution for justice sake; for doing what is righteous. Suffering should be endured then. But many of us suffer simply because we are too stubborn or proud to admit that God knows better than we do what is right for us.

As with all things related to the Bible, to understand God's will; we have to be in the word, study and work at knowing what God's will really is. The more we know about what scripture has to say, the more able we are to apply that to everyday life and we will begin to see more clearly.

One of my favorite authors, Andy Andrews, has a quote that really shines a light on how we should proceed. "When faced with a decision, many people say they are waiting for God. But I understand, in most cases, God is waiting for me."

God is there leading our lives, showing us the way. We have only to decide to follow.
