Most women can, at some point, see themselves being a mother. When once you were concerned with birth control and always happy when aunt flo came to visit on time, you are now throwing yourself for a loop by going in the opposite direction. Focusing on getting pregnant can become a stressful job that can and will destroy you if you let it.
Instead, focus on preparing for your children. What kind of life do you want them to have? How will you discipline? Have you talked with your spouse about the ways you plan to raise your children? There are so many questions that can be asked, and what better time to ask them then while you are trying to conceive. I know this does not seem like it will help, but at least you will be doing something useful and not spending every second worrying.
Many times, it takes longer then we originally thought it would take to get pregnant. A lot of women make the mistake of thinking that once you stop taking the birth control, you are sure to conceive. In reality, it takes the average couple 4-6 months to conceive, and that is only if neither partner has any type of fertility issues.
Being infertile means trying to conceive for 12 months and not succeeding. This does not mean that you will never get pregnant, it is just a likely indicator that there is a deeper, underlying problem that is causing you to not become pregnant.
Be sure you talk with your doctor about what you can do. Find a doctor who will listen to you, and who will take your feelings into consideration. If you are not happy with the treatments or ideas from your doctor, find a new one. Now, this does not mean that if your doctor suggests something and it does not work, that you should just move on. A lot of times, doctors will experiment with many different options to find the right one for your body.
Don't lose hope. Sometimes there are reasons for infertility, such as endometriosis or polycystic ovarian syndrome in women, or low sperm count in men. Sometimes infertility is unexplained. Whatever is causing your infertility, don't let it consume you. I know you won't always want to hear it, but there are other options.
