Are There Any Overactive Bladder Support Groups I Can Join?

Being diagnosed with an overactive bladder can be a very difficult and even scary time. There are many unanswered questions and there are many questions you become afraid to even ask. You go to your doctor and hope that they will find the problem without you having to direct them to it. Overactive bladder can be very embarrassing, and the worst part about it is there isn't much you can do about it. Fortunately, there are support groups and health groups that want to help you though this time. You won't have to worry about the embarrassment of explaining overactive bladder problems, because they already know and all of the members are struggling with the same things you are. I've listed a few different support groups that I've found when searching for support for this issue myself. These overactive bladder support groups seem to have the best support and health advice.

The National Association for Continence is the first one. This group is a private, non-profit organization that is dedicated to improving the life of people with incontinence. There is a ton of information and health concerns connected with overactive bladder on the site, which I found to be very helpful. A monthly newsletter includes stories they receive from their members about their struggles with overactive bladder. It also includes the latest health news in dealing with overactive bladder. They ask for a small $25 membership fee to join their support group. This money goes to maintaining the newsletter and running the website. With it you will receive the newsletter as well as access to their blogs, interactive surveys and member testimonials.

The Interstitial Cystitis Network is another support group. This group's website will help you locate local support groups for overactive bladder. The site also offers live support group chats with people who know about the health concerns you face. There is a 24/7 support forum to allow you to talk with other overactive bladder sufferers and share your stories and struggles. This group has several different membership options and all include a subscription to their magazine, which is filled with information about treating and dealing with overactive bladder. If you would like the magazine in email form your membership is $30, in print it is $60 and if you are outside of the United States it is $90.

The Interstitial Cystitis Association is another great overactive bladder support group. This group also has a newsletter and their website includes treatment updates, as well as information on support group meetings in your area. If there is no support group in your area, the ICA will help you set one up. They have steps that will help you find a leader in your area and start a group to help you deal with the everyday struggles and embarrassments of overactive bladder. The membership fee for the ICA is $45 a year, and this gives you not only their magazine and news clips, but also full access to their phone and email lists of support groups. They also offer discounts and news emails relating to the treatment of overactive bladder.

You don't have to go at it alone. Hundreds of people out there are struggling just like you are and there is no reason that you need to feel embarrassed or ashamed. People are here to help you and lead you to others. Your current situation and personal story could help someone else deal with their overactive bladder, and vice versa.
