As the Masters Tournament approaches we will inevitably hear more about the chances of him overtaking Jack Nicklaus' record of 18 major titles. Sam Snead's record of 82 tournament wins is another mark he is confidently expected to surpass. Byron Nelson's record of 11 successive wins, which nearly everyone vowed could never be matched, comes into the conversation anytime Tiger wins 2 in a row. For the record, his best streak is 7 wins and around then everybody began to wonder..
But how about some of the other records Tiger does not yet hold, hasn't yet come too close to breaking or will have to wait an awfully long time to challenge?
Most Holes in One; Currently Tiger has 18, which should be enough for anyone. Arnie has 19 and Jack Nicklaus 20- but the professional record goes to Mancil Davis, a member of the PGA Tour of America, with 51, the last this year. He also holds the record for double eagles, with 10 to his credit.
Holes in One on a Par 4: The only time this has been done on the PGA Tour was in 2001 at the FBR Open. Andrew Magee's tee shot on the 17th at the TPC Scottsdale reached the green, rebounded off the putter of Curt Byrum (who was about to putt at the time) and went into the hole.
Breaking 60 in a PGA Tournament: Now who would bet against Tiger doing this one-day? So far only three people have done it. Al Geiberger was the first to shoot a 59 back in 1977 and Chip Beck and David Duval have equalled the mark since- Duval with a last hole eagle.
Most cuts made in PGA Tournaments; another one he may eventually get to. Jay Haas holds the top spot for now, with 592 cuts made and counting.
Shooting his age: OK, this one will take him some time. Walter Morgan managed it in a senior event aged 61 (he shot 60), Sam Snead did it in the Quad Cities Open on the regular tour aged 67. He shot 67 in the second round and then, two days later, closed with a 66. As for the most times one man has done it, a gentleman named Frank Bailey achieved the feat 2623 times between the ages of 71 and 98.
Go for it Tiger- you can do it!
