The popularity of what Major League Baseball used to be about has lost much of its appeal due to so many steroid allegations, and Commissioner Bud Selig not understanding that the game of professional baseball is undergoing a change of guard. There can be no denying that the steroid dilemma has made Major League Baseball less appealing to the younger generation, and the popularity of the NFL has taken the place of the once number one American pastime.

It is an undeniable fact that steroid abuse in Major League Baseball has changed the face of the game, it has place a negative stigmatism on modern day players whom have broken cherished records while using steroids. In a time where true heroes are hard to find, how many Major League baseball players are free from using steroids to enhance their game?

When I was growing up in the early seventies Major League Baseball was something that my generation respected and loved - due to knowing that the players of my time were in it for the love of the game, and only relied upon their natural abilities to play the game.

It is a sad fact of reality that Major League Baseball has lost a lot of its fanfare due to more infields fighting amongst team mates, visiting teams, and trash talking from Major Leaguers who do not know when to keep their opinions on the down low, which in turn keep all negative feelings away from the game. In comparrison, professional football has almost a zero tolerance concerning antagonistic behavior that can and will lead to fights that ultimately disrupt the flow of a game.

If Commissioner Bud Selig is to remain the "Commander and Chief" of Americas fading great pastime, it may be important for him to know that there are not that many feel good stories to take note of in the modern era of Major League Baseball.

I think every generation has its share of sports scandals. Babe Ruth was a hero, but a drunk. Stories of players accepting bribes to throw World Series games; wife swapping and other things.
