Are There Drugs in Our Tap Water?

Bennie Perry
The answer is yes, and recently drugs in our tap water are being reported at an alarming rate. One might presume that this is a problem that you would expect to hear about in a foreign country and not on American soil, but the truth is that this problem is right here in the United States.

Recent studies have shown that our water contains traces of everything from sex hormones to birth control drugs. Many water samples have shown that the most dangerous thing of all that could possibly be found is out tap water is antibiotics, which are being found in our water at an astounding rate.

What are the effects of low doses of antibiotics on your health?

Most antibiotics are completely harmless, and the doses that are being found in most of our water samples are smaller than those that are given to you by your Doctor. However, we are being subjected to these drugs with every single drink. What this means is that we will constantly have a low level of antibiotics in our systems. This level is enough to cause antibiotic resistance, and as a result, the drugs later become ineffective when they need to be used to treat infections.

Antibiotics in our drinking water are also the direct result of a condition known as MRSA, which is a type of medication resistant staph infection. This condition is especially dangerous in children, the elderly, and hospital patients, because these infections can quickly turn deadly. MRSA is also known as a "super bug", and unless something is done to reverse our body's resistance to antibiotics, many more of these bugs will be created and spread.

If you are concerned about this information and are wondering what steps you can take to fight against the drugs in your tap water, the answer is to purchase a home water filtration system. This is usually the least expensive way to go with a cost of about 10 cents per gallon.

A water filtration system has been proven to be the most effective answer to clean the water in your home, and to keep it drug and toxin free. Most systems even have the ability to remove the chlorine put in by the city to kill bacteria.

The problem of drugs in tap water does not seem to be one that will likely go away any time soon. Many cities and States currently do not have any requirements to test for drugs in the water supply. This fact may shock you, but you should not think that you are forced to intake antibiotics and fall victim to resistant bugs or bacteria. There are many steps that can be taken that will ensure that our families are drinking the safest water possible when in our homes, and you can start out by making sure that you explore all of the available options when it comes to a water filtration system for our home.
