Are There Too Many Celebrity Products?

MimiRose
Over the years there has been an increase in the number of celebrity products. Almost every year a celebrity is coming out with perfume, cologne, a clothing line, or another type of product. As soon as some of these celebrity products are available in stores it becomes an instant hit with fans. Lately customers that enjoy buying celebrity products have had a very wide selection of products to choose from. The variety of celebrity products people can buy are not unique and are usually a clothing line or a fragrance by several different celebrities. Many celebrities have the same exact products and the only thing that is different about the products is the name and the way the products look. This has caused some people to feel like there are too many celebrity products.

One of the products that too many celebrities have is a clothing line. In the past five years celebrities such as Paris Hilton, Jessica Simpson, Beyonce, and many others have started their own clothing line. Most of the celebrities that have a clothing line do not have an education in fashion. Many of these celebrities are able to get a clothing line without a fashion degree because of their celebrity status. When celebrities start working on a clothing line, they will usually have a team of people that will design the clothes or they will sign a contract with a company that has fashion designers. The amount of money some celebrities have generated from their clothing line has been over $100 million.

Another product that too many celebrities have is a fragrance line. Elizabeth Taylor was one of the first celebrities to have her own line of perfume. But in the past several years numerous celebrities have come out with their own fragrance line. The reason celebrities are able to get a fragrance line is because they sign a contract with a company that makes fragrances and also because of their celebrity status. Many of these companies are eager to give a contract to celebrities because they know celebrities will help make the product an instant hit with fans and customers.

Instead of being limited to creating their own products some celebrities will also endorse other companies' products. The types of products celebrities have endorsed are cars, hair care products, jewelry, electronics, and several others. Celebrities receive lucrative deals from these companies because the companies know the sale of a product that is endorsed by a celebrity will increase.

No matter how people feel about the numerous selections of celebrity products, celebrities will continue to come out with their own products because they know it's a good way for them to increase their income.

There are a lot of celebrity products out there. I think the main difference is staying power. Once you get past the initial group of people who buy it just because of the celebrity who made the product will fail if it's not that good.

Yes! Too many perfumes. Too many clothing lines. Too much overexposure. Now, they're making liquor. Great article and definitely on the money.

Went to Walmart the other day and saw Taylor Swift had a clothing line for Juniors. They were cute clothes.

How many fragrances can there possibly be? I have a feeling many of them smell pretty similar.

Yes, I agree. There are too many of them now. I may like their song (or movie or whatever) but I really don't care if I smell (or dress or drive) like them either. Just because their name is on it, doesn't mean it's good or make me want to buy it.
