Are You Using Social Tagging to Maximize Your Website Traffic?

Find Out How Social Tagging Can Help to Dramatically Build Your Brand and Your Website Traffic

Thomas A. Hall
What is social tagging you ask?

Well the "social" part really refers to social media in the context of social media marketing. This often refers to what most people call the new web 2.0 marketing. For example, marketing on Facebook.com, Twitter.com, Myspace.com, Youtube.com, and a whole host of other social media websites. The "tagging" part refers to the key words or "relevant words" you assign to a particular blog post or article. These words are essentially a simple 3-4 word phrase of what your article or blog post is about. More on that in a bit.

If you have a personal or business blog or you routinely write online articles for sites like the one you're reading now, you've undoubtedly come across an input field asking for "relevant tags or key words" related to your article or blog post. If you don't have a blog and you market online, then you need to set one up quickly... but that's a subject for another article.

This is where you "tag" your post or article. For example, let's say you write a blog post about puppy training and proper puppy nutrition. In the "key words" or "tag field" while submitting your blog post you would enter something like "puppy training" and/or "proper puppy nutrition" or "keeping your puppy healthy and obedient." These are really anything that is made up of a few select words that describe the context of your post or article.

Here's a quick tip if you're not sure what key words to select:

Go to Google.com's Keyword Tool and let Google suggest what key words to use. Just type in your blog address or your website address and hit submit. Google returns with suggested key words for you to use. You can access Google's keyword tool here: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

The reason you want to do this is because search engines capture those tags or key words. They rate the relevance of your article to those key words and can help to build traffic to your blog posts and articles. So when someone on Google.com types in "Puppy Training", there is a higher probability of your site showing up higher in the results list if you've properly tagged your article with the appropriate key words. The result of course, is an instant increase in website traffic to your blog or website which should ultimately lead to increased sales.

There is a whole science behind key words and search engine optimization, and blog tagging. The above is just the "quick and dirty" synopsis of why you should properly tag your articles and blog posts to maximize website traffic to your sites.

Another point worth mentioning is if you use Wordpress as your blogging platform, Wordpress actually saves and indexes the "key words" you use to tag your blog posts. This is another great way to get your key words indexed by the search engines and get additional traffic to your sites via the Wordpress key words listing. Those key word lists link back to your website.
