Are You Wasting Your Time Writing for Helium

A Guide to Helium

Nora Nick
Writing for Helium.com is an avenue to interact and network with hundreds of people just like those who write for Associated Content. However, if you are lured to writing for Helium because of their advertised earn money by earning a writing star here is one writer's experience with the website.

Two days ago when I went and logged in my writing score was 55.35%. Yesterday, when I logged in my writing score was 55. 56%. Today when I logged in my writing score was 55.35%.

I have 151 active articles on Helium.com. Supposedly 89% are in the competitive category, whatever that means.

Helium.com is not the place to go if you value your anonymity. I had several reading comments from people who identified themselves with the first names of my daughter's classmates!

The bottom line is this that after three years of writing for helium.com, I have not had a single cent deposited into my paypal account. Three years of writing for a website that is obviously making money for their own editors and not even bothering to make a token offering to those of us who have made the website work.

Not only that but they claim control of our material as if they had copyright to it. I don't think so.

Someone should tell Helium.com that if we choose to move our material out of their freeloading site that is our choice. I am beginning to think they could stand with a little bit of spring cleaning.

Now, after all of these negative comments why do online writers continue to contribute to a site that offers little money lure? Because most of us online writers like networking with other writers. At Helium, you get instant gratifcation when one of your readers contacts you and makes a suggestion.

We also get an idea as to what other people are writing about and piques their interest. It would seem then that we return to Helium.com because we are more interested and vain in seeing our printed word laid out for hundreds of possible immediate readers than we are in contributing to a site that continues to ask for citations when you have already given mla author, page, line.

Helium is more of a creative online site and your criticisms are always those given by your readers.

Sadly, Helium dropped up-front payments in Dec of 2010.

i cannot agree more with your article. i have posted my own work to helium yet they refuse to let my rating score reach more than 73% stopping me from earning any money at all

Very interesting article. I've just started with Helium and have yet to earn anything, but I haven't written much there. I'm not quite ready to give up on it yet, but I'll definitely keep what you've said in mind.

Wow...thank you for your input! I gave up on Helium after trying everything in my power to land a Marketplace article, the contests, everything! I have made $12 there since last July. I only have like 25 articles, but I saw no motivation to stay there and have not been to the site since January! It is everything you have said...for me anyway! :)
