The Dawson College shooting and 9/11 have caused many people to go into a security frenzy. Everyone is paranoid and against anything that is related to guns and/or terrorism, but are these fears just? Do people really need to worry everyday about a sudden explosion from a terrorist attack, or someone entering their school and open-firing? The answer is no.
The Dawson College shooting took place on September 13 th 2006. A young man in his twenties, wearing an army outfit, entered the college and open-fired on students in the cafeteria. He killed and wounded innocent students and this horrible event ended with his barrel in his mouth, and pulling the trigger.
Immediately after this event, people only thought one thing. We need to have a better control on guns. We need to ban or make guns very hard to acquire. Is this really the answer to the problem? No, it is definitely not. His guns were registered, but if he had not had a gun license, he still could have acquired a gun very easily through illegal means. It would be a a better idea to do the exact opposite. Make it a law that everyone would have to carry a gun that is in perfect view. This would mean that, the moment the assailant entered the college and shot one single shot, there would have been immediately almost a hundred guns pulled and pointed in his direction. One wrong move and they would all fire. This would have made the fatalities of this tragic day go to almost zero.
Now people are scared that there will be more people who will shoot more schools, and some are people who will not even go to a school. But think in terms of rates. How many school shootings have there been and over how many year? In the Canada and U.S. there have been about 5 maximum in the last 25 years. So that is 1 school shooting every 5 years and a probability of having one at your school is 1/100000. So truthfully, are people over exaggerating the whole situation of gun control.
9/11 was a devastating attack. Thousands dead and many injured. Peoples reactions were, along with George Bush, "we need to fight terrorism." Immediately after the attack, Bush invaded Iraq and Afghanistan. I understand Afghanistan, but why Iraq? There is something corrupt that is going on here. Back to the topic of the U.S. invading Afghanistan, up to today what have they truly done? They have truthfully done nothing. Still, people feel more secure, but why? Because they think the government is doing something to keep them secure and safe.
The U.S. has the population feeding from their hands. This makes everyone do as the say and get the vote to do anything as long as they say it will be "fighting terrorism."
People have no reason to be afraid and everyone should live life as though there are none of the risks that have been mentioned.
