Are You Wearing the Wrong Sized Bra?

Melissa B
Okay, you think the bra you are wearing is the correct fit, right? Well, do you know that statistically 80% of woman are, right now, as you read this, wearing the wrong size bra? It's true. Look in th mirror, just you and your bra, are you seeing a supportive, attractive, comfortable bra? Or a "I can't wait to take this thing off" bra? Maybe, it's your favorite bra, it's so comfortable and very worn. But unlike a comfy fleece pullover, the more stretched out, washed and worn, it doesn't get better. So can I get you to confess your wearing the wrong size bra right now? If you said yes, keep reading for great tips on finding the best fit for a perkier, more supportive, and even healthier fitting bra!

Did you know that a not-so-perfect fitting bra can actually cause neck, back, and shoulder pain and discomfort? Yes, that pain in your back, may be able to be relived with your next bra purchase. Well then, what should you look for in a bra? Good question! Well, to start off it must be comfortable, which means it should fit you well in the shoulder, back, and cup. Your ideal bra will support what you have and define and perk up so to speak, what you may be lacking. Not lacking? Have too much? You are the most susceptible for back pain due to incorrect support. Even still, a bra should be a fun accesory to your wardrobe. Something that you find cute, pretty, sexy and stylish. Many of those with larger sized cups, feel they lack style in their bras. Shop around, there is a beautiful bra that fits you!

Alright! Lets find your size. Oh, you thought you knew it, but forget whatever size you have in our head, this is mathematical. It' not a guess, or what your mother told you, it's a science, based on facts! So here is goes. Wearing a comfortable fitting bra, with no extra padding, take a tape measure across the bottom part of the bra. When using this measurement, round your number to he nearest whole inch, whether that be up or down. Now, considering the fact that bra sizes only come in even numbers, add 4 inches to this number if it is already even, and add 5 inches if this number is an odd number. So, you should now have your band size. For example, if you measured 32 inches + 4 inches = 36 = your proper fitting band size. This number is your band size.

To find your correct cup size, stand straight ad measure around your bust with the tape measure around the fullest part of your breast. You will need to round this number (up or down) to the nearest whole inch number, just as you had previously done with the band size measurement. Next, you need to take your cup number and subtract it from your band measurement. Now, depending on the difference, is the key to finding your correct cup size, according to this table.

DifferenceStandard Cup Size0"-1/2" (1.3 cm)AA1/2"- 1" (2.6 cm)A2" (5.1 cm)B3" (7.6 cm)C4" (10.2 cm)D5" (12.7 cm) DD or E6" (15.2 cm)DDD or F7" (17.8 cm)G8" (20.3 cm)H9" (22.9 cm)I10" (25.4 cm)J

Need an example? Okay, so we said your band size is 36 and let's say your cup measured 38. So you take 38-36=2 which is a B cup. So put this all together you can see you are a 36 B. Did you get all that?

Hopefully you did! If you do not have a tape measure, simply follow this link, and you may download and print your own tape measure. http://www.herroom.com/printable-tape-measure,930,30.html

Now you are on your way to wearing, ahh.. a comfortable, bra! Style is also a important factor in finding the correct bra. When you know your size though, you can try on all different kind of styles. Everything from push up to minimizer, ail at your disposal, once you KNOW your size.

Now I do have to add, as much as this is a mathematical science, a lot of weight rests on the manufacturer. You know, you have jeans from size 9-12 in your closet, all pretty much fit the same right? Well, so goes the story of the bra. Every manufacture makes bras slightly different, so try on different brands and styles, but try to find a brand and style that match up with your measurements.

In the end, after measuring, I am believing most of you will find your correct size is not what your wearing right now. If you have been enlightened to your true size, I now give you permission to indulge yourself in a new bra!! Have fun ladies!
