Are You Worried About Your Freedom?

Anthony Tedeschi
What exactly does it mean to you to be free?

Does it simply mean to you that slavery has been abolished?

Have you, at one time or another, been released from captivity or imprisonment and that is what your freedom means to you?

Does it mean to you that you have the right to speak without fear? That you can be completely honest with your opinion, regardless of what that may be?

Does freedom mean to you the absence of something unpleasant? That freedom, in itself, is a state of being. A state of being impervious?

Does freedom mean to you that our great nation has the ability to rule itself; that we are no longer subjected to the rule of another country?

Does your freedom mean that you have the ability to act and live as you choose, rather than the opposite, being told how to act or how to live?

Does your freedom mean that you have the right to purchase whatever "you" choose. That you have the ability to be unlimited to pick from an assortment of goods and services of consumer products or how you pay for those products?

Or, are you more attuned to divulge in the philosophy within freedom, the philosophy of free will? The ability to make your own choices by yourself without any outside influential power.

These are all very good examples of what freedom may mean to us on an individual level. Some may differ from others, nonetheless, freedom is a right that has been "earned" (not given) to all on a collective level in America.

Some people have lost their freedom because of lawless acts. Others have lost their freedom because they were kidnapped or taken hostage. While some have lost their freedom because they simply refused to fight for what they believe in.

Freedom was not easy for us to obtain. To be free requires each of us to have courage with our convictions; to question things we may not fully understand; to sometimes struggle beyond simple measure and to be victorious in defense of our freedom.

Because we have earned our freedom does not mean that we will always be free. This right, as we so easily accept as being there forever, can merely become something of the past. For us to continue to live freely, we will always have to struggle to preserve the truth behind what make us free, what made us free to begin with, and to never subject ourselves to more control than is necessary.

In my opinion, this is exactly what is occurring in our nation today. We are subjecting ourselves to more control than is necessary. Those that stand up in defense of their freedom, in defense of the Bill of Rights and the Constitution, are being ridiculed and labeled as radicals, racists, and bigots.

The complacency that has swept over our nation has inevitably led us in the wrong direction. The blind one-sided political views, that so many Americans have established, has divided our nation beyond simple explanation. The vibrations of fear that sweep under our doorsteps can be tangibly felt as it ripples throughout American households.

Freedom and democracy are not one and the same, they are not synonymous. They are negative forces that repel one another. The more government applied to our lives; the less freedom we have. The more freedom we have; the less the government is involved in our lives.

However, to be completely free; to have complete freedom to do whatever we choose, whenever we choose to do it, is chaotic in its very nature. To be unlimited without guidance would lead this nation into a frenzied state of being. Lawlessness and fear would progress this nation to its collapse. This is not what it means to have earned freedom.

The conflicting force of complete government control, socialism, or nationalization is truly just another form of slavery. To be enslaved; to have the very liberty (freedom to think or act without being constrained by necessity or force ) in which we have taken so much for granted would no longer exist. The very nature of freedom would be stripped from our lives. This is not what it means to have earned our freedom.

Republicans are quite unified in their opinions that the government should become less involved in our lives and regulating our private businesses, nevertheless, the increasing concern is that the government may impose too much regulation.

Democrats, on the other hand, have more assorted opinions about government regulation but are more concerned about too little regulation rather than too much.

Obama and his administration's central conjecture has been nothing short of incorporating solitary idealism. The Democratic party can be characterized by a major belief of theirs; "extensive" government services. The prejudice nature behind the very attacks against Americans for standing up for their freedom is repulsive, nauseating, and vile.

The battle over protecting the very freedom that each and every one of us contentedly take for granted should be praised, respected, and treasured. For it is these types of courageous acts of conviction that won us our freedom to begin with.

But when your convictions lie in self-perpetuation, selfishness of political domination, and arrogance that your political party is better than someone else's political party then you will do ANYTHING including degrading your fellow Americans just to advance your personal agendas. It is prejudice beyond that which you attempt to portray in those that disagree with blind one-sided political views.

Quite indeed. When we replace our moral and ethical pricinples with big government, like the gay marriage amendment you mention, we set ourselves up for failure. Religious priciniples are good for any nation, though religion should have no influence in what political party we align ourselves with. When it does...lord help us. Thank you for your insight.

Excellent article. I think what will destroy our freedom is two fold: Giving up our principles to win the war on terror and adding amendments like the gay marriage amendment that allows big government into people's private lives. Adding God into the Constitution is the quickest way to turn our nation into a theocracy. If you think politics is nasty now, wait until religious conflicts dictate political party alignment. By the way, the gay marriage amendment is a perfect example of big big government!
