What You Need

Hiking in the winter requires special equipment. Make sure that when you set out on any hike that you are prepared for an overnight stay. It is a good practice that if you are setting out on an overnight trip then you need to plan on two nights. This practice allows you to bring extra food and clothing in case you are to get lost. Just because some of the aforementioned trails are relatively easy does not mean you can neglect basic safety. Always hike with a map and a compass to protect yourself from the accident of getting lost.

Hiking in the winter can be deadly if you are not prepared for it. Where plenty of clothing and make sure your clothing is breathable. On any hiking trip you will sweat no matter how cold it is outside. The more you sweat in the cold the more likely you are to find yourself in a state of hypothermia. Always layer your clothing and wear what you will need. Don't get to hot and bring plenty of water.

Make sure you are wearing appropriate shoes. Hiking boots on any of these trails is a necessity. Most of these trails feature sharp rocks and some contain steep climbs. Good hiking boots will protect your feet and we all know the pain and agony of having the wrong shoes on our feet during a hike. Make sure you have broke your shoes in well before wearing them on your first hike.

Hope this Arizona Hiking Guide offers you some valuable information as you look to plan your next hiking trip in Arizona. See you on the trail.
