Arkansas Congressional State Representative District 80 Race 2010
Of Interest to Those Who Live in Randolph and Sharp County, Arkansas
Keith Sloan is a Republican from Noland in Randolph County, Arkansas. Sloan is 19 years old and would be the youngest member of the Arkansas State legislature if elected. Keith Sloan's values very much represent those of the Republican Party. Sloan is against abortion, for gun rights, against marriage between homosexuals, and against higher taxes. He promises to work hard to bring much needed jobs to Arkansas District 80 if he is elected.
Linda Collins-Smith is a conservative Democrat who is a long-time Pocahontas resident. This past Summer she resigned from the Arkansas Ethics Commission in bid for Congressional State Representative of District 80. Collins-Smith has proven her integrity from her history with this position and is ready to better serve the needs of those in Arkansas District 80. She is married to Phillip Smith, a Circuit Judge in the Third Judicial Circuit. Collins-Smith has proven she can multi-task as she operates the Days Inn hotel in Pocahontas, has volunteered time and effort in promoting tourism to the area, and understands that education is the key to the betterment of our community.
Jan Ziegler is a life-long Democrat who is a native of Randolph County. Ziegler is an educator, a community leader, and has been involved in many community activities including the Eddie Mae Herron Center, Randolph County Heritage Museum, Pocahontas Fine Arts Council, The Century Wall, and many more. She received a Bachelor of Arts in French from Arkansas State University in 1972, a Master of Arts in English from Arkansas State University in 1978, a Master of Arts in German Studies from the University of New Mexico in 1995, and her PhD in Educational Leadership from Arkansas State University in 2000. Jan has many ideas on her platform for improving conditions of those in District 80. She realizes the value of an education and desires to increase college completion rates for students in the area. She would like to increase scholarships available for nontraditional students. Ziegler would also like to complete the Hwy 67 project to the Arkansas/Missouri state line. Thanks you guys. This was hard to write because I'm very much rooting for Jan but I tried to stay objective.

With the pendulum in full swing in politics these days, it will be interesting to see who wins in Arkansas - please let us know the outcome - the county elections oftentimes bubble up to the higher offices. Cheers.
