Arkansas and other football fans, team members, friends and family members are in morning today as Garrett Uekman, 19, tight end for the Arkansas Razerbacks has passed away.
Emergency medical personnel were called to a dorm on the campus of the University of Arkansas where Uekman lived and was found unconscious by a roommate at approximately 11:15 am this morning. Uekman was seen at least an hour prior to his collapse by another roommate, who stated that Uekman was playing video games and seemed to be fine at the time he observed him.
The University of Arkansas issued a statement today that said, "Uekman was last seen playing video games by a roommate at about 10:15 a.m. and appeared to be in good health. Another roommate found him unconscious about an hour later. Emergency services were called at 11:17 a.m., and the first responders were on the scene at 11:20 a.m. Uekman was in cardiac arrest when responders arrived and was pronounced dead at approximately 12:10 p.m. at Washington Regional Medical Center.
The Washington County Coroner will send Uekman's body to the State Medical Examiner for an autopsy. Lt. Mills said this is standard procedure for any unattended death."
The Arkansas Razerback football team was called together this afternoon for a meeting in which the team members were informed of Uekman's death.
Ukeman's last game played for the Razorbacks was Saturday, November 19, 2011 against Mississippi State. The Razorbacks won the game with a score of 44-17.
