Arkansas Intercepts Rebate Checks

Some states may intercept the much anticipated economic stimulus payment rebate check. The state of Arkansas Department of Child Support of Enforcement announced last week to the media that they plan to intercept the stimulus rebate check of the non-custodial parent if they are at least $500.00 in the rear on child support. This news will come as a heart break to many, but at least the money will be put to good use of taking care of the necessities of children. It's not for certain if all states will adopt this law for people that are in the rear on child support. Although this factor may play a part in the delay of some rebate checks, taxpayers maybe come a little upset.

For years non-custodial parents that are delinquent on their child support have had their taxes intercept and bank accounts frozen in states where the courts enforce the payment and jail time. For example the state of Tennessee will place you in jail, and require you to make the payments for being delinquent. Interception of tax refunds isn't anything new to the average tax payer that is behind in child support payments. Actually filling a tax return and getting it intercepted by the courts could save a lot of time and money. Check with your states tax revenue office to see is this rule applies. It's always good to be on the safe side and stay current.

As a parent with the other parent more then $5000 behind in child support I think this is a great idea. All states should do it.
