Arkansas Trail of Holiday Lights, 2007: A Must-See Celebration

Paula Myers
Sixty-eight communities across Arkansas have joined together to celebrate the holidays. Lighting displays, parades, open houses, dining, music, and entertainment are just some of the exciting things that will be happening all across the state. The Trail of Holiday Lights is a great way for family and friends to get together and have a good time. You can also find ice skating, choirs, the world's largest man-made Christmas tree, and Santa Claus. There are communities in each of Arkansas's six regions participating. The following is a list of the communities:

Ozarks: Siloam Springs, Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale, Fayetteville, Eureka Springs, Berryville, Harrison, Yellville, Bull Shoals, Flippin, Cotter, Gassville, Midway, Lakeview, Mountain Home, Horseshoe Bend, Mountain View, Clinton, Heber Springs, and Pocahontas

Delta: Corning, Piggott, Rector, Blytheville, Osceola, Jonesboro, Newport, Wynne, West Memphis, Marianna, and DeWitt.

Timberlands: White Hall, Pine Bluff, Sheridan, Monticello, Hamburg, Strong, El Dorado, Texarkana, Ashdown, Little River County Area, De Queen, Nashville, Historic Washington State Park, and Prescott.
Ouachitas: Gurdon, Arkadelphia, Garvan Woodland Gardens, Hot Springs, Mount Ida, Mena, and Waldron.

River Valley: Greenwood, Fort Smith, Van Smith, Van Buren, Alma, Ozark, Paris, Booneville, Magazine, Altus, Wiederkehr Village, Clarksville-Johnson County, Dardanelle, Russellville, and Morrilton.

Central: Conway, Searcy, Beebe, Jacksonville, Sherwood, North Little Rock, Little Rock, Saline County, and City of Benton.

Here are just some of the communities and the Trail of Holiday Lights activities going on in Arkansas.

West Memphis
West Memphis was voted Arkansas Festival Association's Best New Festival for 2002 and a 2003 Arkansas Delta Byways Boot Strap Award Finalist. Their festivals are always spectacular. Festivities will start on November 20, with the Community Tree and Park Lighting ceremonies, and continue through January 1. Horse drawn carriage tours are given each weekend and are an exciting addition to the festivities.

Pine Bluff
Pine Bluff was voted "Festival of the year" for 2000 and just recently awarded the "Classic Award" for 2006 by the Arkansas Festival Association. The Enchanted Land of Lights & Legends is Arkansas's largest drive-thru of holiday lights. It has over 130 displays and most of them are animated. Pine Bluff's Regional Park has 1.2 miles of lights and displays. The Festival starts November 20 and lasts through December 31. Admission is free.

Ashdown/Little River County Area
From November 21 until January 1, there will be over 20 miles of white lights lining the Little River County Courthouse and surrounding grounds. The Holiday Festival of Lights is open from 5:30 pm until midnight.

Strong
There will be five miles of lighted homes on Jones Lake Road beginning the day after Thanksgiving. Disney's Storybook Christmas, The Good Samaritan, Jonah and the Big Fish, and 102 Dalmatians are just some of the lighted figures on display.

Conway
Families and friends can drive out to the First State Soccer Park and enjoy the variety of light displays. There is also a festival area that has music and holiday programs available. There will be vendors, snacks, and Santa Claus every night. The festival begins on Thanksgiving evening and will last until New Year's Day Night. The festival lasts 40 nights. That's a really long festival. The Holiday Festival of Lights is open from 5:30 pm until 9:30 pm and there is a $5.00 admission fee per vehicle.
