Arlington, Oregon, Mayor Carmen Kontur-Gronquist Models Back Bra, Panties on Fire Engine, Posts Pictures
Appearing as American as mom and apple pie, imagine everyone's surprise when photos of three-year Mayor Carmen Kontur-Gronquist began making the rounds around the local water coolers; at issue are photos of mayor clad in nothing but black lingerie, posing on the town's fire engine. Adding the question of "what were you thinking" to "why would you take these pictures," Ms. Kontur-Gronquist then proceeded to post said photos onto her MySpace page. At this point in time, her profile is private and the photos cannot be accessed by the general public.
In a Jan. 5 interview with the East Oregonian the mayor asserts that these photos are part and parcel of her personal life, and thus have no bearing on her professional life, but it appears that local residents disagree and instead worry about their town's portrayal.
Yet when digging a bit deeper it appears that these photos were taken a few years prior to the mayor's appointment, according to Fox News, and considering the local council's division about the actual importance of the photos' sudden appearance and newspaper tip-off with respect to their existence, there appear to be deeper undercurrents that are running strong in this little community.
The mayor alleges that at issue are those citizens of the community who are perennially digging up dirt on others - especially when it is considered salacious - and thus gives little thought to the concerns about residents with respect to the photos. Coming to her aid are those who decry the rumor mongering of individuals who refuse to be identified as being the disseminators of this kind of information.
Of course, Carmen Kontur-Gronquist is not the first mayor whose skimpy attire has netted her some less than positive press. Georgetown, Colorado, had to contend in 2001 with Mayor Koleen Brooks was accused of flashing, as reported by Channel 7, and although she alleged no wrong doing, the Guardian reports on her 2002 recall vote. In 2003, B.C.'s Houston Mayor Sharon Smith is reported by CTV to have been photographed by her husband wearing nothing but the insignias of her office.
While Ms. Kontur-Gronquist is not alone in having racy photos taken and then disseminated among constituents and others, she is one of the few who have aided in their availability by having a previously open profile on the website where she posted them. Whatever for?

Post a CommentI am a66 year resident of Oregon and have always prided myself on the fact that Oregon is usually considered on the leading edgeof most issues be it political or orherwise. However I am trully embaressed due to the mindless antics of the holyer-then-thou residents of Arlington. I am a resident of a small town in Eastern OR and travel a great deal around the country with my work. Believe me!!.. Arlington is the laughing stock of the West coast.
I've just watched this beat-up of what appears to be nice woman. I get our local version of20/20 down under in New Zealand,my wife and daughter just about fell around laughing watching the performance of that moron who came over all righteous about a woman dressed in a bikini. What's happened to small town America? We need honest Mayors and drop the small minded pretentitious pricks like that. Best of luck your honor, regards Mike
you know the people of arlington have every right to be ashamed, she told them she would do her best to provide for them, instead she stripped THEN proceeded to put the pictures on myspace, how is it people were invading her personal life when she so freely put them up for anyone to see? the only person who needs to grow up is her. if she wants to play with the big kids she should start by keeping her clothes on.
Picky, I'm not so sure about CA being the richest state. Money is tight, the budget is a mess, teachers are being laid off, and L.A. is getting ready to double (or is that triple?) trash fees to hire cops.
Please leave Carmen alone. She didn't do anything wrong. That's only a piece of fabric and skin exposed. We are already in the 21st century not the dark ages. Carmen, move here in the Bay Area. People here are more professional and well educated. You will be well compensated here if you are our mayor. This is the reason CA is the richest state and well love.
Gawd, what a stupid, stupid issue to be arguing about. Conservatives suck, any NORMAL person would realize this has no bearing on anything based in reality because she took the pictures before she was mayor and kept the pictures to her friends via MySpace. But of course, political jerk-offs (such as they are) will stop at nothing to demonize even a beautiful single mom that show due diligence in keeping the photos to herself and her friends.
Arlington should be socially chastized back to the stone age.
If a MAN did this 3YEARS ago and it was just now posted, not a word would have been said about it. This just goes to show that small towns who get run into the ground by men can not handle anything new. She shows no more than she did on the beach as a life guard, and since she did it before she was Mayor, who cares! I would not be ashamed of a body or a mayor that looks like that. Obviously a small town with a small town mentality. This woman shows no more skin than what my wife does at the beach. After working as a police officer for the past 20 years, I certainly understand small town politics. Thats the problem here, some underlying things that nobody wants to discuss or at least openly. Get a life, get real and get a body, I'm sure if yours looked as hers does you'd be proud also. In fact please come to northeastern North Carolina and solve our problems if it is as easy as getting a picture off the internet.

Living in the dark ages is not conducive for any town's well being or progress. To make matters worse , Ms. Gronquist was performing a non-paying community service. Geez !
