Arlington Our Freedom Sleeps

Tripp Stanford
So green and still with stones in file and rank,
My freedom sleeps with heroes in this resting place,
A widow weeps and buries her love, with tears on her face,
Soldier souls lay now on heaven's bank.

The colors will fly at half mast today,
Thoughts drift back to apple pies and ice cream,
My neighbor, my friends, my family lost in war's dream,
I remember mothers lost sons, both blue and gray.

The last bullet fired and the last life lost,
Have found their way to Arlington to rest,
My freedom sleeps now, and I am blessed,
I won't forget what my freedom cost.

Life was short for the soldier boys,
Keep memories forever close by.
