Arm & Hammer Essentials Natural Cat Litter is Amazing

My Search for the Best Cat Litter Ends with This New Clumping Litter Made from Corn

Julia Williams
Dealing with kitty litter is not a pleasant task, but it's an essential one for households with cats. Kitty has to go somewhere after all, and although it is possible to teach a cat to use the toilet, most people don't have the patience or the time for this. So cleaning the litter box becomes a daily chore we do because we love our feline friend. But with so many brands to choose from, which one is the best cat litter to use? As a self-described crazy cat lady, I've used a lot of kitty litter. My quest to find the best cat litter, however, has come to an end. I've just discovered what I believe is the Holy Grail of cat litter. For me, the new Arm & Hammer Essentials natural clumping litter is the best cat litter by far.

I've used clay scoopable litter for years, but decided to find a more natural alternative to clumping litter after learning that the clay dust can cause respiratory problems in some cats (humans, too). Also, because a cat will invariably ingest some litter particles during grooming, intestinal blockage can occur. Though I've never personally experienced these issues, I wanted to switch to a natural cat litter to be on the safe side.

The first natural cat litter I tried was Feline Pine, which is made from little pellets of pine that break down into a sawdust consistency when wet. I loved the smell of the Feline Pine cat litter, but my cat hated this litter. I'm sure of that, because after two days he peed on the bathroom rug instead, which is something he's never done before. I returned the Feline Pine cat litter and continued my search for a natural cat litter that both my kitty and I could agree upon.

I was surprised to discover that in addition to the Feline Pine there are quite a few different natural alternatives to clay clumping litter available. Swheat Scoop is a natural cat litter made from naturally processed wheat. Cedarific is another natural cat litter made from a blend of hardwood and cedar chips. Both of these sounded okay but I was intrigued by another kitty litter called World's Best Cat Litter. I hoped that a company bold enough to call their product the World's Best Cat Litter would be able to back it up with proof, so I bought a bag to see if my kitty would give it a paws up.

The World's Best Cat Litter is made from all natural, finely ground corn that absorbs urine and odors, but unlike traditional clay cat litter, it's virtually dust-free. It's also a clumping litter, which worked better than the Feline Pine pellets that turned to mushy sawdust. I wasn't disappointed in the World's Best Cat Litter, but I did discover one problem right away. Before I could even use this natural cat litter, my "foodie" cat chewed a hole in the bag and ate some of it! The World's Best Cat Litter is made entirely of corn, so it wasn't going to hurt my cat. However, I didn't buy this pricey natural cat litter as cat food, and wondered how I could use it in the litter box if he was going to eat it instead of pee on it. I solved that dilemma by mixing the World's Best Cat Litter in with some of my regular clay clumping litter, and hiding the rest of the bag. I watched carefully to make sure he wasn't doing any snacking in his litter box (yuck).

The two drawbacks I found with the World's Best Cat Litter are that it's more expensive than clay clumping litter, and doesn't really clump as well. The kitty litter would break up into little pieces, which made cleaning the litter box more difficult. Nevertheless, I was willing to live with this natural cat litter even though I wasn't convinced it was the world's best cat litter. Then, while shopping at Target, I discovered another natural cat litter, Arm & Hammer Essentials clumping litter. Like the World's Best Cat Litter, Arm & Hammer Essentials is made from 100% natural biodegradable corn fibers that are highly absorbent. I decided to try this natural cat litter, because Arm & Hammer had been my preferred brand of clay clumping litter.

After using both corn cat litter products, I now prefer the Arm & Hammer Essentials natural clumping litter to the World's Best cat litter. The Arm & Hammer corn cat litter smells better, clumps better and offers better odor control, most likely due to the addition of baking soda. Also a plus, is that the Arm & Hammer corn cat litter is less expensive than the World's Best Cat Litter. I like this Arm & Hammer cat litter because it's made of natural corn fibers. My kitty approves of it too, which means that for this household, it's the very best cat litter!

Arm & Hammer Essentials stinks!!! I come into my home and smell this awful strong pine scent as soon as I come in the door. I have been using Pro Pet: Fresh Results, which was carried by Walmart. They have now discontinued this wonderful corn-based product. My cats loved it, and there was no dust. The Essential litter is $2.00 more than Pro Pet, too.

Although this litter does all that is advertised, I agree somewhat with Barbara and Kittymama regarding the litter fragrance. Maybe I'm sensitive to fragrances since we don't use perfumes, scented detergent, or air fresheners in our home. I was very disappointed when I opened the bag, and was assaulted by the overpowering fragrance. Ugh. We too can smell the litter throughout the house, granted it has lessened in intensity over two days. Thankfully out newly adopted rescues still use it! I am writing to Arm and Hammer to comment as well.

I cannot find this product in Dallas. I would by a pallet load if I could. I have 5 rescues and it made my home scent free.

I use the pressed cardboard litter boxes. They usually last 5-7 weeks.
I absolutely loathe the Essentials litter. It clumps SO badly that nothing I can do gets it all out of the bottom of the litter pan. It holds in too much moisture, no matter how and when I try and scoop out the clumps. I'm asking for a refund.

I love the Arm and Hammer regular clay litter, but I decided to give this new corn litter a try. BIG MISTAKE! IT STINKS REALLY BAD!!! Anyone who says it doesn't has lost their sense of smell. My cats will not go anywhere near the stuff. Back to good old clay litter. My cats will be happy again.

Arm & hammer Natural essentials with corn fibers is the poorest excuse for cat litter I have ever tried. the oder penetrates the entire house. not just the room I keep the boxes in. The stench is so bad I can't have anyone over. I have just dumped all of what I have open in the garbage and plan to return the one bag i have not opened. I have replaced it with Tidy cat hard clumping multiple cat litter. Hopefully i will be able to enter thru the garage door without the oder hitting me so hard i nearly fall back into the garage.

Stinks? I think it smells so good (confused). I'm so glad arm & hammer came up with this. THE best natural cat litter I've tried by far. My kitty likes it too :)

i totally disagree to whoever said it stinks i think it smells great especially compared to the smell of pee and poop! It kind of has like an orangey smell to me. But to each his own I guess.

i have five cats and havr tried tons of litter. This is the best by far.I used to use tidy cat scoopable multi cat in the red lid box.(its the best clay litter) but nothing comes close tto this I have had to leave the box uncleaned for days at a time and still with 5 cats i couldnt even smell anything bad while i was cleaning it I love it Im so happy. Just wish it was alittle cheaper though

I LOVE AH Essentials!!!! No more dust, smelly odor, mess, or heavy lifting!! This stuff clumps without that gooey mess at the bottom of the litter box. So thankful for this product.
