The end of the world is a popular subject as the year 2012 draws closer. Whether you believe that the Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world or a worldwide apocalypse on December 21, 2012 or you believe it is all myth and hype - the subject is still fascinating. The History Channel will be exploring this theme with Armageddon Week which begins January 3 and continues through January 9, 2010.

The term Armageddon is Biblical - derived from the Hebrew word har megiddo which refers to the mountains of Megiddo. Armageddon is mentioned in the New Testament book of Revelation as the site of a great worldwide battle where human leaders of the world, under demonic influence, will wage war on God's people. Armageddon is considered the ultimate final battle between God and Satan.

It is often associated with the term apocalypse (which means revelation or doom) and many believe it will be a final battle that either destroys the world or ushers in a new age of peace on earth.

The History Channel will begin Armageddon Week with Doomsday 2012 on Sunday, January 3 at 8/7 Central. Other shows that will featured during Armageddon Week will be Apocalypse Island, several specials on Nostradamus and Nostradaman predictions (Nostradamus Effect: The Apocalypse Code, Nostradamus Effect: 2012 Extinction; and Nostradamus Effect: Secrets of the Seven Seals, The Other Nostradamus); Life After People (Wrath of God and Bodies Left); The Bible Code II: The Apocalypse and Beyond; After Armageddon; Apocalypse Man; Mayan Doomsday Prophecy; Earth 2100; Siberian Apocalypse; and Seven Signs of the Apocalypse.

A complete schedule of History Channel's Armageddon Week is available here.

Whatever your favorite flavor of doom and destruction, History Channel's Armageddon Week 2010 is sure to have something to suit your taste. Whether you believe the various doomsday or Armageddon theories and predictions are bunk or you accept them as true prophecy of end times events, the information presented in these apocalypse and end-of-the-world television specials will be interesting to watch.

The ideas, predictions and reasoning presented during Armageddon Week will spark debate, conversation and thought and will be worth watching. For more information about Armageddon Week, see Armageddon- History.com - 2012 and the End of the World.
