Armored Core 4 Review (PS3)

S.R.
Armored Core 4 is a Mecha game for the Playstation 3. The title is kind of a lie, as many Armored Core games were just updated versions with new subtitles. This game actually is a completely new game. Let's talk about it.

Story : Same old stuff here. You're a merc for hire, taking on the highest bidder's work and generally just fighting stuff for money. There's some intrigue here if you're looking for it. Stuff to do with the government, the industry, all that. That's not important though. What is important, however, is that you are the pilot of a giant death robot and it's time to deal some pain.

Graphics : The graphics are nice, but there's nothing mind blowing here. The backgrounds are all nicely drawn, but there are large patches of boring stuff like grass and ground and steel walls. Overall, there's some boring elements for non-Mech things. You'll want to not focus on stuff like this, overall. The Mechas, however, looks excellent and you can see the detail of pretty much anything on your giant death robot. There are some graphical glitches in the game, but they seem unavoidable in modern games.

Sound : There isn't a large variety of music here, and it shows. The music that is here is painfully ambient and average. Overall, the music isn't too great but isn't horrible either. A game like this could have really benefited from a rocking' soundtrack, so it's too bad. Sound wise, the game is decent but once again could use more variety and more work.

Game play : Well, those of you who have played previous games now have to learn an entirely different control scheme. For the most part, the control has gotten a bit easier but is overall a bit harder to really get down pat. There's a learning curve here, but I got used to fairly fast.

But now, the meat of the game. This is the best Armored Core yet. The game play is overall a blitzkrieg, much more fast paced than previous released. The mechas are more customizable than ever, and the detail you can put into making your dream giant death robot is awesome.

Re playability : If you love mechas, it's hard to go wrong with this game. Making the perfect mechas or new mechas will eat up hours of your time and you'll love every second of it.

Overall : 7/10. Great game, poor music, new control scheme.
