Army Lieutenant Ehren Watada Almost Free at Last

Mr. Chip's
Two weeks ago many organizations, people, supporters and so on including most of all Courage to Resist asked the Solicitor General to drop the Army's appeals against Iraq War refuser Lieutenant Ehren Watada. Recently he did just that. (This information is courtesy of Courage To Resist)

So now what comes next. In this writer's opinion. This day should have come long ago. Maybe like under the former President Bush Jr.'s regime. But hey isn't this the same President that basically covered-up the murder of US Army Ranger Patrick Tillman. And now the General that was involved in that cover-up is being selected for another command under a new President. Not only is the late US Army Ranger's family protesting this fact but I am too. Who is to say that this General will do the same thing but under new circumstances. I'd hate to see lightning strike twice. Hopefully our new President will not let a friendly fire cover-up happen again or a situation like what US Army First Lieutenant Ehren Watada had to endure.

And yes it has been repeated and written about a ton of times. But some like in the military community namely some Army officials at Fort Lewis,Fort Lewis spokesman Joseph Piek, and the Department of Justice according to Piek. Piek even alludes to the fact that it seems like Lieutenant Watada is being let go without suffering any punishment or consequences (full stories can be found in the AP May 06,2009 by Gene Johnson and in the Seattle PI May 06,2009 Vanessa Ho). As if two years of constant attacks on Watada's credibility, his character, his ability as a soldier,a military officer, an American and a patriot wasn't enough. Piek and those he refers to that want further punishment for Watada just won't let this matter go. Even after the courts have spoken. As far as this writer is concerned. This case is over and Ehren Watada won.
