My husband and I have recently moved to another town, one in which we have never even had the occasion of visiting. We decided to dine out one evening. We had no way of knowing which restaurant to choose from, so we decided to try Arnolds Family Restaurant located in Lone Star, Texas.

We entered the small crowded dining room of Arnolds Family Restaurant, where we had to seat ourselves. There was only one waitress so we had a little wait before we received our menu's and give our drink order. The waitress was friendly but not very attentive. We finally received our drinks and placed our orders.

My husband decided to keep his order simple. He ordered a 1/2 pound cheese burger, which came with french fries. I chose the chicken fried steak platter, which came with french fries, a side salad, Texas toast and cream gravy.

While we waited for our food to be prepared, we enjoyed the quiet and friendly atmosphere of Arnolds Family Restaurant. People that were dining around us seemed to be enjoying their food and the small family restaurant was doing a booming business. I hoped this all meant that we would soon be eating a wonderful meal.

My husband absolutely loved his cheese burger, he found Arnolds Family Restaurant's cheese burger to be juicy and flavorful, with just the right amount of vegetables to compliment the huge, thick hamburger patty. The french fries were not cut from fresh potatoes, they were frozen, but the french fries were crispy and golden brown. I on the other hand, was concerned with the fact that the hamburger patty was still pink in the middle! Thankfully my husband did not get sick from the undercooked hamburger meat. Arnolds Family Restaurant can consider themselves lucky in this instance.

My chicken fried steak was uneatable. It was not homemade, but of the frozen variety, that is about an eighth of an inch thick and tastes like a battered piece of cardboard. I also believe that my chicken fried cardboard was spoiled! I even asked my husband to taste it and he thought that the chicken fried steak tasted spoiled. Arnolds Family Restaurant does not know what a chicken fried steak is nor when to throw one out.

I ate the salad which consisted of lettuce and tomato and one little packet of salad dressing, my small bowl of cream gravy and one slice of toast (which is all that came with my order). I also ate a few of the french fries but I like my fries lightly salted right after cooking, these were unsalted.

Needless to say, I was still hungry after leaving Arnolds Family Restaurant. I don't believe we will be spending any more of our time or hard earned money at this restaurant, nor do I relish the idea of tempting fate and risking an illness from spoiled or undercooked meats. Arnolds Family Restaurant received two thumbs down from my husband and myself.
